Hi there,

You could try Julie at GrimmTales Rattery, she's right in Santa Cruz...I'm not sure if she has anything available, but it's worth a shot.

Hey, I'm in santa cruz too!
I got my first ratties from Pet Emporium in capitola, but I don't recommend them, most of their rats are sick and they make no attempt to treat them, and keep rats of different sexes together.
My friendliest was actually from the Petsmart in SC, but they only had boys.
All rats in my experience can become loving friendly pets with enough care.
I'll keep you in mind when I start breeding again though.

Anna,
Yep, I bought mine from Pet Emporium also! You're right, they do keep both sexes together.  Not sure how they treat them down there, but had two so far that were bity. Not having the best rat experience so far.

Well, I hope mine do become more loving. As it is now, my little pet mouse is more socialable and friendly, crawls on my hand, then up my arm onto my shoulder. Love that little creature. (included a pic)

Have a great day, and let's hope this wind dies down!

What a cutie!

I've had 5 ratties from PE, and only one was friendly to start with.
A lot of patience, and a little peanut butter on the finger drew all of mine out of their cages to eventually become some of the most loving rats I know.
It's hard, but be patient and they should come around.
Here's a pic of my most recent rescue from there, a blue named muffin.

keep an eye on your kids, it's possible that they have "the sneeze" as most of the PE rats do and part of their misbehavior is being sick.  If you do  have to take them in to a vet, I recommend Creekside. They've treated my girls wonderfully.
Good luck!
