I decided to do this memorial early since I don’t know if I will be capable of it tomorrow night. My little berky rexy baby is almost gone.  Rather suddenly at 21 months old.  I am pretty sure its PT but its not responding to steroids.  If she is still with me in the morning I will drop her off at Dr. Munn’s for a peaceful euthanasia. Frizzy Kizzy as she was nicknamed was a very special little baby, who grew into a sweet rat.  She was aging fast, her rexy coat was thinning in a lot of spots and it didn’t help that Angel her cagemate decided she needed more help and was barbering little bald patches near her ears.   

She came from one of unglued’s oops litters and I hadn’t planned on taking any of the wee ones in.  I met her and her siblings at just over 3 weeks old to take pics for potential adopters.

We meet…



I had always wanted a black rat, having never had one, but had met many by fostering or delivering them to new adopters.  Andrea showed up with a 5 week old furry mite in her pocket as a gift to me.  As we all know it’s very rude to not accept gifts! 



She was my Pre-Christmas Ratty


She meets new friends and learns the delight of being happily squooshed


She loved hunting waterbottles, they were never safe with her around.  Either I would try to drink from it and get flooded with water from her bite holes, or she would drag away the empty bottles.

She wrestled and played all her life, she was just so full of fun and joy in living.
I’ll always remember her like this…a silly shrieking happy handwrestling baby.

oh shelagh i'm so sorry. 

Oh, no - how terribly sad.  I adored Frizzy Kizzy; I'm so very sorry she couldn't spend more time with you.  Thinking of you, Shelagh, at this very difficult and sad time. 

Oh Shelagh.  I remember so well when you brought this little mite home!  It's far too soon to lose her, but then, it's always too soon, isn't it?  *huge hugs*   

Fare thee well, Kismet.

Oh, Shelagh--

I'm so sorry to hear about your girl.  I'm glad you were able to spend a snuggly night with her and give her lots of love.  It's always too soon, no matter what. I hope your heart will heal soon and that you can take some comfort in the knowledge that her life was wonderful because of you.

I will give scritches to my Rexy Berks, who look just like your girl, in honor of a life well-lived.
