Fritz has taken to running on his wheel incredibly fast in spurts of insanity at all hours, day and night. Ginger used to kind of trot on it, and Milo used to walk on it real slow, so they never made this much noise. I don't want to take Fritz's wheel away but the noise is driving me crazy, it's like a stagecoach rolling through my bedroom. It's a large Comfort Wheel; I bought it not knowing if anybody would use it so I went for something cheap. I'm thinking I'm going to have to invest in a quieter wheel for the little psycho. I imagine half of the responses here are going to be Silent Spinner and half are going to be Wodent Wheel, but I figured I'd ask anyway. Plus, I had a Silent Spinner for my hamster and it broke after a couple of months of rigorous running, and I know that's happened to lots of other hamster owners; I'm not sure if the large sized one is sturdier. Help?

I have never had a Silent Spinner, and I don't think it would fit on my FN, since it is modified, but I think a lot of others have it.
I have the Wobust Wodent wheel. It isn't the quietest thing... Harlo likes to run on it, and she does it pretty fast and hard. It makes a decent amount of noise, but she enjoys it, so I just try to ignore it. Maybe it is just her that makes a bunch of noise on that wheel.  dontknow

I just wanted to give you my two cents on the Wodent Wheel. Hopefully someone else can help you with the Silent Spinner.  Smiley

We have Wodent Wheels for all of our ratties. The wheels aren't 'silent' when the rats are running on them (we have a couple of fanatical wheel runners) but securing the wheel to the side of the cage with zip ties or hooks certainly helps reduce the little bit of noise that the wheels make when being used.

Jeez that *is* expensive. Which size/style do you have? Tell me more about it? Do you know if other people round here use it too? The little nail file inserts look really interesting too.

I love my Silent Spinner.  I've had the Wodent Wheel and if they poop or bring food in it it is rediculously loud!  The SS wheel is open in the front so anything falls out.  The Wodent Wheel traps it and it clunks around while they run.  I like the Silent Spinner better.  Mine was loose and banged around until I figured it out.  It is great now though. LOL You're right about the noise when the ratties poop in the Wodent Wheel.

My Wodent Wheels were never overly noisy if I used some vegetable oil on them every once in a while (unless it got poo or bedding in it). I just bought the Flying Saucer from Petsmart and it's completely silent so far. I think the rats took a bit to figure out it was a wheel though.  Smiley

Yup, I agree. The Stealth Wheel by Atticworx is the best choice for a crazy runner. Unlike the Wodent Wheel, it has ball bearings which means it spins really easily. This should mean that your rattie can run faster in it. And it's super quiet.

I just tonight finished putting up a blog post that compares the Wodent Wheel and Stealth Wheel (using Hoot as a tester, of course). So if you want to see videos of rats running in the Stealth (I haven't captured Hoot using the Wodent Wheel yet), check out:
www.athingortwo.info/Wheels

You can get both the Wodent and the Stealth at www.critterwheels.com too.

I know exactly what you mean, vombatis. I have the Senior Wodent Wheel and my Pixie does just the same thing - she goes that fast sometimes, her legs are in a blur! It's such a crack up!!  Yellow Cute Laugh
If you can't decide on another wheel (sorry I don't have advice on that front - my current wheel is the only one I've had), I'd suggest earplugs. Honestly, I could just kiss whoever invented those!!
Good luck!
