Hi Guys,

I posted the topic "HELP! cancer, possible amputation, need timely advice!" a while ago and now I'm trying to figure out what I can do to help my Boo. Boo had a funny growth on her arm that blew up, and when the vet went in the biopsy said it was fibrosarcoma. A very aggressive cancer. This was on the 11th. Then when she went in to have her arm amputated to remove the cancer, the x-rays showed her chest may have metastases though the vet wasn't 100 percent sure. This was this last Monday. (I might be getting a second opinion Monday on the x-rays, not sure yet.) So the vet halted the surgery and left her arm the way it was. It's healing up sort of but has this crazy purplish blood oozing out from the drain hole. Huh

Part of me wonders if I should have her arm removed anyways. Part of me is not sure it'd be wise to put her through it. I can visibly see her arm and what's going on there, but of course I cannot see inside the lungs. So what I am going to try to do at this point is see what I can do that is non invasive as lung surgery is very sketchy. (Also the vet said there are no tubes made small enough to use to regulate the rat's breathing to go into the lungs so that's another reason not to go there.)

Foods, supplements, alternative therapies....I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this and what seemed to work or not work. Tell me everything! I'm trying to educate myself as fast as I can about rat cancer and possible aides but it's alot of information. I  am also reading "Quantum Healing" by Chopra right now. I picked it up at the bookstore when I was going through cancer books yesterday. Has anyone has luck with energy therapies and or healing as well? I am even considering sound therapy which at least would be relaxing and soothing. Sort of along the lines of Dr. Masaru.

So far I am using Colostrum and acidophilous along with her regular Doxy and Baytril. I only give her Meloxicam once a day at night though I'm not sure if it's helping or hurting and I'm too afraid to take her off it completely and too scared to keep her on it full too. Someone suggested Pred but I don't know if it will be more or less effective than other remedies or not. Anyone have experience with Pred on their rat? And at what point is it most effective? Boo's arm still looks lumpy but it's hard to tell if it's stabilized or if I'm making it larger in my mind.

Other options I saw were Coenzyme Q10, and lipioc acid. I'm going to start giving her the Dr. Budwig's flax oil in cottage cheese because it seems harmless if not platatable for Boo.

Thanks much. Blue Dumbo Smile

So absolutely no one has tried alternative ways to beat cancer in their rats???

The research I have been doing so far pretty much says the way to beat cancer (at least in humans) chemo or not is through the diet and supplements.
Anyone have any luck with things like kyo-green, or Jarrow's green formula?

I just saw your post.

My vet is a holistic vet and a dvm.  She practices herbal medicine and acupuncture along the holistic side of things.  As for cancer I have gotten herb mixtures from her in the past that are supposed to help with cancerous tumors.  It all depends on the animal and how they respond.  We currently have a rat receiving herbal treatment for a pituitary tumor from her.  I have no idea if this same type of thing can be used for fibrosarcoma.

My vet is certified through Chi Institute TCVM, you can look at the following website for a vet in your area who is certified with this insitute.  I beleive they need to be certified in order to purchase the herbs from there.

PM me if you need more info.

This will not help your rat now, but I thought it was interesting and possibly useful.  My husband started giving my rats little bits of apple every day.  Until those rats came along all but one of my rats (all female) had died of cancer around the age of two and a quarter to two and a half.  Houda and Gouda lived a good year longer than any of my previous rats and neither one of them had obvious signs of cancer when they died.  My vet at the time said that apples have been known to reduce the risk of cancer in rats.  I always feed my rats a little bit of apple as a treat now in hopes that it will help prevent cancer later in life.
