Before we even have a chance to get to the lab rescue, we have litters upon litters that need homes! All are in MA but transport can CERTAINLY be arranged!
Two rats were turned into a shelter after a college prank - they were released at a frat party and a kind student took them from th eparty. The male was not so fortunate, he was found dead the next day. The females are quite sweet and appear to be a blood hooded with headspot and a black berk - young! Needless to say, after being in with a boy, both gave birth to litters this week. THey are in desperate need of foster care or permanent homes when the babies are available, which wont be for at least 4 more weeks.

THEN we get another call - in western MA, 2 rats were adopted from an ACO who was going ot bring them to the petstore, and they too were preggos - 17 babies later, these girls need homes, be they foster or permanent, to care for the babies!

We are in desperate need of foster homes if anyone can help. Kim's Ark will provide you with proper caging for these animals as well as food for them (We know how much babies can eat!).
If you can help us out - please send an email to adopt@kimsarkrescue.org and we can get you either an adoption app or a foster app!

Psst, you forgot the babies in Boston!
Someone got a pair of  female rats as pets but soon lost interest.  Her friend took them in but is not allowed to have pet in her dorm. One the eve of transport, one rat gives birth!  There are 12 babies. Mother is an albino. Will have more info on them this weekend, when we go to see them !

OH WOW!!!!

litter one is on their way to silverflame - and BOY are they cute! mom is a PEW, cagemate and nursemaid is a black hoodie -
babies are 6 PEWS and 3 agouti berks, 2 black berks, and one agouti hoodeds. evenly split sexes, 6/6.

BABIES are adorable! sweethearts to the max, mom and friend are cute and very concerned about the babies. emma, d and i all fell in love.

THEN tracy calls with the updates on the MSPCA rats (these 2 litters have made it to foster care too)
tracy said they are adorable babies and has one picked out for me to keep for her already - there is a nice mix (of 16-18 babies, NOT 12 like we though!!!) of rexes, headspots, blues, blacks, etc. we will hae pics of them early next week.

so all in all, a great weekend so far Smiley cutie patootie rats (and that agouti berk girl is calling my name!!! must resist!!!)

About the MSPCA rats:
The moms were both totally cool about me messing around with the litter, blue was MORE than happy to get out of the cage. And one bebe didn?t want to stop suckling even after all the other ones had fallen back into the nest. I had pull the sucker off! Sexing went ok, but probably sex again at 3 weeks. The black berk was such a good mommy, kept organizing the kids into a pile to nurse.
The moms are SOOOOO tiny!  But squishable. I flipped them alot. Smiley They are babies themselves.
Oh and lot of boys. Just too cute!

Ok, I'm ready to take the next step. I want to get another rat. I've hesitated because I've felt that there just isn't enough love in my heart for another rat.
But when my baby girl passes on i'm going to need another rattie to keep me going.
I love Bella so much. She makes me so happy.
I know that if I can save a little rattie, then I have done one more good thing in my life.

Agouti berk boy - RESERVED FOR STEPH

Agouti berk girl 1 - RESERVED FOR LYNNE

Agouti berk girl 2 - poss hold for Bonnie?Huh?

Black berk girl - she's the devil in baby's clothing... she is always on the go, running, trying to escape from everything!!  I just love her to pieces.RESERVED FOR CECILIA

ha ha -

ok lets take it in order.

yes, we are planning a southern transport AND a western transport to get rats (and mice) to people.

kiko, you first - the babies aren't weaned yet, so they cant go Smiley you are saved for now - BUT - with a western transport anything is possible Smiley we have some mouse foster homes in MI, and some adoptesr along the route.

kellz - yes, we have a southern transport at this point for 4 rats and 4 mice, and babies will be able to go on this transport!

let me know which rat you actually want, sicne right now the mother is reserved for you.

I know.  I emailed you what happened.  I'm new to the rat community and got confused between what berk and agouti meant.  I meant the agouti hooded baby girl from litter #1.  NOT berk hooded. DOH!  Anyway, take my name off of the berk mom and put it on the AGOUTI HOODED BABY GIRL FROM LITTER 1.  If she's still available.  If not then I will take one of her sisters.  I really am sorry I'm so blonde.  I made poor Kim like:

Wow Kim, think you have enough babies? And to think, just a month ago you had run out of rats  Wink Anyways I am fostering the litter of 12 (pews, blacks, agoutis) and there are still a few left. These guys are soo sweet, the mom and 'helper mom' are the sweetest fosters that I have had so far. If I had room I'd keep them  Smiley They are very friendly and curious. As far as I know they are still available (correct me if I'm wrong) and I think they'd be especially happy if someone took both of them. The babies love people, there are 1 or 2 shy ones but they are getting used to me. They should grow up to be very loving ratties  Smiley

I just read somewhere that the rattie train will be coming soon...Is that true? Depending on where you guys are coming through, I can take the little agouti girl if she's still available. But that is only if you guys are coming through Raleigh or somewhere close. I have no idea where anything is around here, so I don't think I could drive anywhere far, it's all so confusing to me still, especially the highways and beltlines. Just let me know.
