Title: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 11, 2007, 10:15:57 PM Well, I don't have any rats and wasn't going to get anymore until my ferrets are gone. BUT I went in this little petstore today just to look around and I saw a glue trap sticking out from one of the shelves and it looked like something was on it. So I went over and looked and there was a little rat stuck on it. My mother and I went over and complained and all they said was they have small animals escape some times so they have to catch them. I tried telling them other things they could do, but they of course could care less. I asked if I could have the little guy who looked like he'd die before I got home and they sad yeah. He had to have been there for days, he's so skinny dehidrated (sp?). I got him home and peeled him off the trap and sprayed him down with cooking spray and sat there getting all the glue off. I then gave him a bath and then repeated it all again once more. He looks all greasy still, but he's clean. I used a syringe to give him some water and gave him some small doggie cookie bits (That's all he'd take and right now he can have whatever he'll eat) I tried babyfood, but he didn't want any. On top of being dehidrated and starving he had mites :( I haven't seen anymore since he had 2 baths and 2 spray downs with cooking spray. Poor thing looks like a drowned rat lol, he's dry but his hair still looks oily. I don't know what I'm going to do with him. I want to keep him, but I'm not sure because that will mean I have to get a second rat once he's bigger and healthier. I just hope he makes it, I'll be so sad if he doesn't. :( I took some pictures of him. He is dry just greasy looking, his hair should be better in a couple days. Introducing Sticky (sorry I had to :P ) Please don't look at my dirty desk, I know I have to clean I've just been lazy.

I'm glad Sticky is safe and in a good home. I hope he pulls through this! :-* to Sticky and lots of :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: :cookie:
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Sunilata on December 11, 2007, 10:29:33 PM This completely broke my heart. :'( I am so glad he is safe with you now!
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: ratsamongus on December 11, 2007, 10:34:04 PM How awful! Sticky is a lucky boy to have found you! You can try giving him some nutrical or get some soy baby formula powder and mix it with warm water. You can melt a little nutrical in there too. He would probably like that and it will help get weight on him and fill/warm his little tummy. Poor little sweety... I would probably report that petstore. People suck. GAH
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: BaraLahatiel on December 11, 2007, 10:38:04 PM I'd definately recommend NutriCal. It works wonders on skinny rats. I got a couple of rescues in like that and it was just a few days before there was a world of difference.
Was the store part of a larger company? I'd call and complain. It is inhumane to leave a rat stuck to a trap like that. But if you talk to them, tell them in an aspect they'll understand- Money! Say you thought it was very disgusting and unsanitary and that the thought of a rat being trapped like that where customers could get stuck to the same trap, or bitten, or smell it after death, is just wrong. Make them think you won't continue shopping there because you are afraid you'll get a sticky trap with a dead mouse or rat on you or something. They ignore you if you talk about inhumane and cruel treatment. But if you talk money and how other customers would feel, you're more likely to get their attention. Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: ..Shea.. on December 11, 2007, 11:08:20 PM Oh my gosh! That's terrible! Poor guy, he's so tiny.
I hope he makes it. :) Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: nerdchick on December 11, 2007, 11:13:19 PM Awwww, teeny tiny little bub. Good on you for taking him home.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: amymckee on December 11, 2007, 11:22:14 PM Aw, poor little guy. He's still adorable, even if he's a bit scruffy.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: whtnyte on December 12, 2007, 12:16:39 AM Rats love chocolate Ensure also. Just pour some in a dish or put some in a syringe and they usually lap it right up.
What an adorable little Sticky boy. So glad you got him to a safe place. I pray that he pulls through  Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: fuzzybee on December 12, 2007, 04:25:30 AM That poor little darling boy. :-* Well done for caring for him so tenderly; please keep us updated on his progress.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: nancycccslp on December 12, 2007, 05:45:51 AM You are going to have to keep us updated on this one.................
Unreal. A petstore with glue traps for escaped pets. Boggles my mind so much that I just got whiplash! Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: momerath42 on December 12, 2007, 06:33:19 AM Poor little guy! Keep us updated on dear little Sticky!
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: nickkaylee on December 12, 2007, 06:50:11 AM Wow the poor thing...and he is so tiny! It's great that you took him. I hope he makes it. Oh and LMAO at the name Sticky that is too funny!
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: CuddlinCutie on December 12, 2007, 07:54:22 AM omg! what a story! that poor little guy! i hope he makes it. i'm sure youll be a good mommy and take care of him now. but i think that he is soooo adorable! it makes me cry how cute he is! lol. i cant stand it!
i love the name too. very cute Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 12, 2007, 08:06:35 AM ratsamongus thanks, I will try that mix for him. BaraLahatiel- no it wasn't a large store it was a small little family store. I think I'll tell them that today maybe that will change there mind about sticky traps. I'll definantly keep everyone updated on him. Thanks for all the help. :)
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Breakthenight on December 12, 2007, 09:49:23 AM That is completly inhumane. And he is such a sweetie. Hopefully he pulls through, as Im sure he will repay you with a rattie lifetime of love. :)
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Ednasmom on December 12, 2007, 11:39:47 AM That little guy is so lucky you found him! I guess that makes you his angel.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: DebW on December 12, 2007, 04:05:48 PM Poor baby! I think glue traps are the most inhumane thing ever invented. I wish the inventors could spend several days glued to a human sized one!
Please keep us updated on little Sticky. I've never had a rat who won't take soy baby formula. Try to get him to take it on his own. If you use a syringe, be very careful and use small amounts at a time. It's easy to give them too much and have fluids get into lungs. Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: JR1030 on December 12, 2007, 04:32:01 PM Ugh. It's unbelievable that a person with that kind of attitude would actually be in charge of a pet store. But enough said about that. Thank goodness you were there that day. He's adorable, and I really hope you can get him to eat/drink something. Poor little guy has got to be so traumatized. I love his name. We took in a stray cat when my daughter was 3, and she named him Sticky because he would stick to us, and not want to be separated. You may find the same thing with your Sticky.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 12, 2007, 04:57:32 PM Well, he's doing better than yesterday. I was afraid he wouldn't make it through the night, but he did. :) When I came home I checked on him and he ate the piece of my breakfast sandwich I gave him before I went to work. He doesn't look as skinny as he did yesterday either. I just finished feeding him the babyfood mix and he LOVED it. I fed it to him off of my finger and he was just going to town. ;D AND he didn't fight me holding him today. Yesterday everytime he got close enough to something he tried to take off, not very well because his back legs weren't working right for him since they had been stuck down for days. Today he walked around on my arms and chest and cleaned his little face . His legs are much better today he's still a little wobbly, but he can move them the right way yesterday they wanted to lay straight out. I wasn't sure if I'd keep him because I really didn't want to bring in anymore pets until some of the ones I have go to the bridge, but how can I get rid of him now? He got me today when he didn't try to get away from me the whole time. So I'm stuck with him lol. Now I'm going to have to search for 1 buddy soon. I already saw one on craigslist, but I am broke for about 2 weeks since I had 2 emergency vet visits within a month and bills. :( Oh well I'm sure I can find him someone eventually.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: scout on December 12, 2007, 05:11:54 PM Sticky traps should be banned! Thank goodness you found him and rescued him! I'm glad to hear he's recovering so nicely. Human doctors recommend a diet of rice when people are recovering from near-starvation because it's so easy to digest. You could use baby cereal since it's made with rice. Pedialyte will help him recover all the good electrolytes he needs. And in a couple of days, I'd recommend adding some probiotics to help restore his gut flora. (The chain pet stores have this in the kitten medicine section by the milk replacer).
I'd wait a couple of weeks at least before getting him a buddy. Let him recover completely before he has to meet a stranger. And maybe you could find a live trap (http://www.livetrap.com/cgi/search.cgi?user_id=6415&database=dbase1.exm&template=products.shtml&2_option=1&2=Mouse+Trap) to give to the pet store. Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 12, 2007, 05:23:21 PM Thanks. :) I know he can't have a buddy now, but I figured if I got one now and he stayed at my brother's house I could do the quarantine there while this guy recovered for 3 weeks and then they could be introduced once he was recovered and the other one would have already been through quarantine and he wouldn't have to wait another 3 weeks after he recovered to get a pal. I told them about live traps, but I can't afford to get that for them at least not right now.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: JR1030 on December 12, 2007, 06:55:09 PM So I'm stuck with him lol. I found this funny in a sad, ironic kind of way. :-\ In the mean time, to help him keep warm, have you put in a warm rice sock or anything with him? I find rice socks to be great...you can get them the right temperature, not too hot, and you don't have to worry about electricity. Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 12, 2007, 07:14:09 PM No he has a little towel in his cage and he's in my room and I have the space heater on. He feels warm when I hold him and I could wear shorts and a tank top in here. So I don't know if that's necessary. ???
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: littledevils on December 12, 2007, 08:23:35 PM Words just cannot describe how disgusted I am with that store and the people who run it. That is just unacceptable!
As if it's not already bad enough that clearly they can't keep their animals contained but to use glue traps to catch them and let them suffer a painful death is just unbelievable! I'm so glad you saw the little one and took him home! I'm sending lots of good thoughts his way that hopefully he'll make a full recovery! Please keep us posted! Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: JR1030 on December 12, 2007, 08:33:39 PM No he has a little towel in his cage and he's in my room and I have the space heater on. If he has stuff to snuggle up in, and it's warm in there, he's probably ok. :thumbsup2: Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Skurry on December 12, 2007, 08:37:51 PM you are this little guys hero! please post updates on his condition, with pics of course. I am sure you will help him recover and become a homie (heart) rat. Props to you! I am so glad you found him! Where are you located? I have room for one more.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 12, 2007, 09:06:44 PM Okay, good to know he'll be okay warmth wise. :) Skurry, I'm in Joliet, but I've kind of fell in love with him so he's going to be staying with me. ;) Here's a picture from today you can see how much skinnier he was in yesterdays 3rd picture. :(

Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: kyssyfur on December 12, 2007, 09:12:35 PM Where can i find nutrical? My vet said to use monkey chow soaked in water to put on weight fast but I am just not impressed.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: JR1030 on December 12, 2007, 09:26:04 PM When you say monkey chow, do you literally mean food for monkeys? ??? Nutrical or Nutristat can be found in petstores in the "medicine" section where they put flea treatments, kitten formula, etc.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Joy_of_Rats on December 12, 2007, 10:19:08 PM Just go into that pet store twice a week, it seems like you'll have a free friend for him in no time...

Nutrical or Nutristat can be found in petstores in the "medicine" section where they put flea treatments, kitten formula, etc. I'm guessing they mean monkey chow as in another name for lab blocks. Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Skurry on December 12, 2007, 10:44:52 PM joy... i hope he doesnt find one in this position again

It is like lab blocks for monkeys Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: momerath42 on December 13, 2007, 07:17:09 AM How is sweet Sticky today? :-* and :cookie: :cookie: for Sticky!
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: LadyRattus on December 13, 2007, 08:08:40 AM Oh my gosh, poor little guy indeed! Evil pet stores these days. Come on, GLUE TRAPS? PET STORE? :-X Evil.
I really hope he'll be ok, he seems to be doing good so far. Be sure to keep us updated on him, I can't wait to find out more! (Keep sending pics too :poke:) Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Washu on December 13, 2007, 01:05:00 PM I can't believe a petstore would use a glue trap for escaped pets. Wouldn't it be cheaper for them to use a live trap? They can put the escapee back in a cage, and then re-use the trap. Sounds logical and more profitable to me.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 13, 2007, 06:26:19 PM Okay, here's an update from today... He's still here and doing good he's very energetic today and last night I put him on the bed, but he's not ready for that yet because when he wondered away from me he would run straight to the edge and almost fall, so it's bathtub only until he gets a little bigger. He's eating and drinking great and as cute as can be. :)
Now about the shop, I had my cousin go in there since it's near his house (he had been there the day I got Sticky). First he sent his sister in to pretend to be shopping and she looked to see if she could see any traps sticking out anywhere. Then after she came out he went in and asked to speak with a manager about a complaint and a women came up to him and said she was the owner. He told her the story about what happened and she said she heard about the situation from a worker. She apologized to my cousin and told him that she had no idea there were traps down because a couple of the workers apparently took matters in their own hands. She said she had talk with everyone and found out who put them down. They were all given a warning and told my cousin how sorry she was and there are no more traps down and there won't be again otherwise some people will be fired. My cousin said that she seemed really anger that they had done that and sincere about not having any more and apologized numerous times. Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: wonderrodent on December 13, 2007, 06:40:23 PM What an adorable lil' boy  Wow! That was his destiny that you came into this store and found him. Well, let's hope the owner told the truth and she really is sorry and this won't happen again.
Good luck with your cutie pie and I demand lots of pictures ;) Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: jodieluvsrats on December 13, 2007, 07:12:09 PM "Stuck with Sticky, huh?.." Sorry, I just had to say it :cheeky:..I just found this whole story disgusting, amazing, repulsive, uplifting, and a whole host of other big words that are too long to repeat here. I am in full favor of creating human sized glue traps..see how they like it..I wish I lived close to you to shake your hand personally for taking on this poor lil baby....so I have to settle for this:
 :thumbsup2:  and :cookie: :cookie: :cookie: for Sticky!! Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: zoocrew26 on December 13, 2007, 07:25:32 PM Awwww yay, well i'm glad everything worked out (but i'm still mad at the workers at the petstore... >:( )
Keep us updated on the little guy, and give him a hug and a kiss ( and a cookie! :cookie: ) from me!! He's lucky to have a momma like you! Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: momerath42 on December 14, 2007, 07:06:26 AM How's Sweet Sticky today?

Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Skurry on December 14, 2007, 08:38:50 PM I cant believe how skinny he is... but most of all I cant believe how the fur still looks like its got hair gel in it!! :o Whats it feel like? Whats his temperment? Does it seem like he was scarred emotionally by the trap experience?
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: scout on December 14, 2007, 09:00:12 PM Wow! He looks 1000% better! Good work getting him onto the road to recovery. I think he may be a satin, which would explain why his coat looks the way it does. That's just how baby satin rats look.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 14, 2007, 09:09:39 PM Oh his hair is soft it looks all spiky still because I had to use cooking oil to get the glue off. He had two baths and two oil downs the first day, but they oil is going to take awhile until his hair doesn't look greasy. Tomorrow I am going to put some more oil on him because by his two front legs has glue still there, but I wanted to give him a break. Then I'm going to try and wash him with dish soap in hopes that that will get the oil completely off. He's a little skittish, when he's on me he'll run all over me. When he's out he mostly tries to hide either by me (if I'm sitting in the tub with him) or behind stuff like on my desk and slowly come out a little at a time. But he'll sit on me and groom himself and as long as it's quite he doesn't try to hide as much. Loud noises make him jump when he's out playing. I don't know if he was traumatized by the trap, but I know I would be so he might. He's just slightly skittish, but I doubt they socialize them. That would be really cool if he was a satin, but I'm pretty sure it's from the oil. His head looked oily for awhile, but now it's starting to go back to the way it was before all the oil (he grooms his head/face the most). But only time will tell. :)
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Skurry on December 14, 2007, 10:05:22 PM He reminds me of my hooded rat (that recently past) when he was younger. It sounds like you will help him adapt well, it may be good to get him a buddy to help him along, one that is hand raised.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: listentotheraine on December 14, 2007, 10:37:35 PM That's probably the sickest thing I've heard in a long time. I'm so glad you rescued him and gave him a good home, he's adorable!

I can't say i haven't seen this before.. some of my first were left in a 20 long tank in the apartment so the landlord came to us and i was called over cause i take in rats and rehome them. IM glad he found you! Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 15, 2007, 08:37:17 PM Ratlovingkippy211- The things people do! >:( I work at a petstore and we have some really terrible people. There is one lady who comes in every so often and asks if we have any rats that are just about to open there eyes because she likes to hand raise them. I don't know where she gets them from, but she always does and then once they are about 4 months old or so she comes in and dumps a rat off on us. Her reason... They only like the hand raising part. :o People can be sickening. We've had so many times that we come in and there's a cage left outside or someone comes in with an animal to get it's nails or wings clipped and they were going to run next door to the dry cleaners while we did it and never come back. :(
Well, I have some good news! He's got a big 'ol belly. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x302/mylife_035/Rats/sticky2018.jpg Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Nokithis on December 15, 2007, 09:08:59 PM wow, look at that baby's tummy! he's a weeble! remember, "weebles wobble but they don't fall down!"

Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: ZooKeeper83 on December 16, 2007, 07:29:02 AM Aww! I complete missed this thread until now. Poor little guy! At least he's safe and in a warm home now.
I still never understand the logic of pet stores like that (and I worked for one as my first job - trust me, not fun and I definitely learned some things). Their main goal is to make money, so you'd think, first off, if they're having animals escaping, they'd put locks on their tanks (or an ever-so-expensive rock!). They're losing their money every time one escapes. Yes, they can just breed more rats, but still every animal is more money for them. And when it comes to the traps, humane traps are more expensive from the start, but they can be used over and over. So, in the end, not only are you saving money, but you look good to the public...oh, and you're saving the animal, but why would you care about that one if you're in the animal business?... Heh. That's the end of my little rant. :-* kisses to little Sticky. Glad he's getting better and better! ~Melissa Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: momerath42 on December 17, 2007, 06:33:16 AM New pictures of Sweet Sticky? :poke:

Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: Lenore234 on December 18, 2007, 11:23:58 PM I completely missed this till now, but I just wanted to say:
rat_hammie_lover05, YOU ARE A HERO to this poor abused little boy. I don't even know you, but I am so proud and in awe of you right now. You just made that sweet little creature's LIFE so much better and he will live a loved existence because of you. P.S.: Thanks ;D. I hate my hair. :P Psh. Shut up. <-- coming from someone with incurably straight, lifeless hair that has to be dyed every two weeks to be any other color than gray-brown. Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 19, 2007, 07:57:37 AM Awwww thanks Lenore. :)
The hair thing, it's part of life no one wants what they have there's always something better. I have friends who's hair I would love to trade with and they hate there hair, but would rather have mine. I can't do anything with mine, I always have it pulled back. It takes forever to keep it down and it still doesn't do what I want it to. I get it relaxed sometimes and it's still a pain to try and keep it straight. It's frustrating. I'm so glad little Sticky has hung in there...he looks better all the time! And, about the hair thing...my daughter has that biracial, warm brown, super curly, big hair that's in style right now...see the current Gap ads. And, we went yesterday so she could get it flat ironed straight. She's 7. Go figure! Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 19, 2007, 08:23:19 AM I don't care if it's in style or not it doesn't listen to me. lol I wish my mom would have let me do what I wanted to my hair when I was little. :(

You know what happens when it gets wet! :icon_rr: Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: amymckee on December 19, 2007, 10:24:08 AM Aw, Sticky is such a cute little guy! And man is he a chub!! :BlueDumboSmileTongue: Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 20, 2007, 02:45:21 PM Things didn't go so great with the lady I was supposed to get his little friends from. So I went to every petshop I could find and see if there were any rats I clicked with, but I didn't. I've been checking forums and craigslist to see if anyone had rats in my area. No luck I so I was just going to keep looking. Then today at work guess what?...... Someone dropped a rat off (I work at a petstore) as soon as I came in (I was a little late) the guys said they have something I might want since they knew I was looking for another rat. When I got in the back there was this huge pregnant rat. I told them I was looking for a male and their idea was yeah, but she'll have babies and you can have as many boys as you want. I'm like oooookaaaaay. We can't sell her because she was someones pet and if they stayed there no one's really got the time at work to socialize her so I said I'd take her and adopt out the babies and momma when they were old enough. She was aparently for someones snake, but it wouldn't eat it because it was to big and the store he got it at wouldn't take it back so he brought it to our store. I hate how people do that. We always have people calling or coming in to dump some animal on us. We've had people bring a pet in to board or get it's nails or wings cut and the people never come back. >:( A lot of us have gotten pets that way unfortunantly.
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: JR1030 on December 20, 2007, 02:50:00 PM Oh, man, that poor little girly. Really, I hate to think of what happens to these kinds of pets when there are no kind hearted people to take them in. :'( Here's hoping for a small litter of all boys, so you can either get mama spayed, or adopt her out, and keep all the rest. :thumbsup2:
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 20, 2007, 03:05:25 PM Yeah I have no idea what happens to the ones that don't have anyone to take them in. I don't know how small of a litter she's going to have, she's HUGE. So we'll see, but Sticky will deffinantly have a friend or 2 or 3 or......
Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: jodieluvsrats on December 20, 2007, 03:32:32 PM Lots of luck to you with that. Hope every thing goes well.... ;D
more Sticky piccies please?? :poke: Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: amymckee on December 20, 2007, 04:45:07 PM We've had people bring a pet in to board or get it's nails or wings cut and the people never come back. >:( A lot of us have gotten pets that way unfortunantly. Wow, that is really messed up. Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 20, 2007, 10:37:38 PM It is messed up I don't understand how people can just leave their pets like they are nothing. :(
I just went back through this post and can't believe how different he looks. If I saw the picture from day one and then saw his today I'd never believe it was the same guy. He was so skinny. :( But not anymore, I think he's spoiled. He's staying in my room until he gets some buddies (they'll have to move to the pet room to much noise in the night) and I kind of give him everything. Anytime I come in and have food he just looks at me with those little eyes and I give him some. I guess that explains why he's growing so fast. lol Anyway here are some pictures from today, he was being a little pain today, he was on the go nonstop. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x302/mylife_035/Rats/stickyandmomma020.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x302/mylife_035/Rats/stickyandmomma023.jpg The mom of Sticky's soon to be friends. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x302/mylife_035/Rats/stickyandmomma028.jpg Title: Re: My poor new little guy :( Post by: alleycat12321 on December 21, 2007, 12:13:53 AM good luck with momma and i'm so glad sticky is doing so well!

Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: DebW on December 21, 2007, 10:24:40 AM Wow! Talk about being in the right place at the right time twice! Good luck with the new mom and her kids. It will be a great opportunity to really socialize some babies and pick out just the right 2 (or 3) little brothers for Sticky. Both those rats are very fortunate to have found you.
Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: Fleur.Cirocco on December 21, 2007, 12:05:45 PM That's really awful, but at least he's well looked-after now.
He's absolutely adorable. And so small. Do you know how old he is? I'm sure he'll grow up just fine, he looks happy to me. Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 21, 2007, 01:44:57 PM DebW- I wasn't really at the right place with the little girly because that happens all the time it was just a matter of when the next animal coming in would be. :(
Fleur.Cirocco- I have no idea how old he is. Some people guessed about 4 weeks when I first got him. Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: Retro Rat on December 21, 2007, 03:16:59 PM Sticky looks like he is doing good. Keep updates coming. Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on December 28, 2007, 03:48:04 PM My mom can't really say no lol. I help pay the bills and pay for all my own things as well as the critters. All she really says now is if I can't afford them then they can't stay here. (Although she buys treats all the time for everyone on her own :wink5: ) She doesn't like living with all of my pets and wishes I didn't have as many, but she only wanted a 3 bedroom house when we were looking so I could have my pet room. ;D
Sticky had a great Christmas besides the treats I bought and hammocks I made he had ham, sweet patatoes, corn bread, some veggies, and a tiny piece of Pumkin pie. Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: xounlabeledxo on December 28, 2007, 05:14:17 PM oh, what a beautiful little boy. im so glad you rescued him! it looks like he has personality out the ears! so cute.

Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on January 05, 2008, 06:55:19 PM Some more Sticky pictures. ;D Not to many though because the butthead would rather be off playing then hanging out with his mom. :P He Looooooves to eat, can't much blame him and he's always on the go. I can't wait until his friends are ready becuase I can tell he gets kind of bored. I hand wrestle with him and take him out, but it's not the same. :( He's doing very well otherwise. ;D

I put him at the end and he looks around then runs straight to my lap. He'll hide under Sweet Pea too. He's a big boy now and I can barely remember him being so tiny, it doesn't even seem possible. He has started marking now, I get a wonderful pee trail when he walks on my legs and arms now. ::)

(http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x302/mylife_035/Rats/cages020.jpg) He looks like such a gentleman. It shows his ears and how wonderful his fur has turned out very nicely. Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: Cicada Hollow on January 15, 2008, 09:51:31 PM This is a wonderful story with a beautiful ending! I remember once while growing up, my mother rescued a wild mouse from a glue trap. She carefully removed him the best she could and placed him in a 10 gallon aquarium, where he cleaned the glue from himself. She set him free after he recovered and grew his hair back.
You are such a great person to take Sticky on and give him a new life! Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: Smillee on January 16, 2008, 02:07:22 PM *loves Sticky*

I know this post is kinda old but, I'm in Gardner, Illinois and I just have to know what pet shop that happened in. I want to make sure that it's a pet shop that I will never go to and there aren't many in the area so I'm hoping that it's not one that I go to often!!
Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on February 05, 2008, 03:33:06 PM Ratty Crazy, I think it was called General petsupplies or pets. I'm not really sure I'll have to talk to my cousin. But you shouldn't have to worry he's up north.

I think it's because their bodies are flexible and they shrink down so much, hoping to slip out of your grasp. Amazing creatures they are... :P Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: ratgirl2 on February 06, 2008, 11:47:47 AM Obviously there is something in that water!!! why don't you feed that poor guy more ;) It's amazing how much they grow in such a short amount of time. They are so frickin cute when they lay in a line on the coke box. It's also kind of funny cause Sticky's spot on the box kind of sags. lol Sticky's a weirdo though, he doesn't even like yogies. He'll eat them if I leave them in the cage and there is NOTHING else to eat. He's crazy or at least his brothers think so because they gobble them up. But he gets other treats as you can probably tell. :yelcutelaugh:

Sticky's an amazing little..erm, big, rat! I'm so happy you saved him :thumbsup2: I never got to read the artical about Sticky's friends, what're there names? Maybe it's not a good idea, but it'd be interesting if the people who let you have the little rat on the glue trap got to see how handsome he is now. Maybe they'd feel bad and think more about glue traps in the future? Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: JR1030 on March 02, 2008, 08:21:33 AM Aw, he looks so great! Title: Re: Watch Sticky Grow. :) Post by: rat_hammie_lover05 on July 06, 2008, 03:30:40 PM Okay, I've been definantly slacking in Sticky updates and I'm sorry. I saw the other posts asking about Sticky so I went and took pictures a couple minutes ago. I did realize that the date was wrong when I uploaded them (it's got tomorrows date). Anyways here are a few pictures of the Sticky man.
Bruce on the left and Sticky to the right.
