So it's HOT and humid here in LA and we're not used to the humidity.  We don't have  very energy efficient AC so we don't use it a lot, needless to say I am beyond miserable (I do not do well in the heat).  I'm just beyond grumpy at the moment so I suppose this is venting.  But I STUPIDLY left our biggest fan on the rat couch thinking they'd be ok and wouldn't touch it.  I was using it to cover a huge whole they had made in the sheet covering the couch.  I had it off so their tails wouldn't get sucked it in, but sillly Kristy didn't think that rats LOVE to chew on things...especially new things.  They chew through the cord in so many places and I JUST NOW caught them doing it.  How dumb am I???!  *heavy sigh* So I picked up the cord (while it was still plugged in) to inspect it, because it's sort of dark in the apartment at the moment and BAM I get electrocuted.  WHAT THE!!?Huh  I so could have killed my rats just now ... and seriously hurt myself!!!  I'm feeling extremely dumb and pissed that our fan is ruined. And my thumb hurts from the electricity.  The hubby suggested we try electrical tape /shrug.  Okay I'm done.  Thanks for listening.  Puppy Dog Eyes:

Ouch!  Glad you're OK

We've all pulled what my friend from Alaska refers to as a "double dumb a**" once in awhile.

Ouch!!  Sorry to hear that you got zapped but glad your rats didn't.  Sad  I think I'd just go out and buy a new fan.  They're all on sale right now.  It's just not worth the risk of having an electrical fire by using electrical tape to repair the old one.

Don't feel too bad. I've owned rats for 7 years and just last week, I left a radio by the cage. My boys pulled the cord into their cage and gnawed most of the plastic off the cord. Thankfully, it wasn't plugged in. There's only 4 things with cords in my rat room, but they just HAD to get one of them

I bet that scared the crap out of you!

If you wrap the cord check all the wires first and make sure none of them are frayed for broken - it they are you'll have to toss that fan and buy a new one.  You don't want to risk burning your place to the ground.  One close call is enough!

It's really easy to re-wire a fan.  Go to Home Depot and ask- it's about $10 worth of equipment, and is a lot easier than it looks.

I wire all of my stuff now.
