Pinkie and her pinkies =)

I went to the shops nearby to wander around, planning to see a movie and stuff, and made the mistake of walking into the petstore. Well there was a tiny PEW girl who was looking VERY round in the middle. The other rats there looked about 10 weeks or so (although shes smaller than they were, and I assume they were her brothers and sisters and that she hasn't been getting enough food since all her energy has been going to the bubs and not her. I really couldn't let her have her babies in that little tank surrounded by other rats on pine bedding
. I just weighed her and she's only 120gms
. She seems awfully young to be having bubs, but not impossibly young. As far as I know there's been no reported cases of megacolon in Australia so it would be pretty safe to rule that out. Fingers crossed for a problem free birth with a small litter (preferably mostly girls since they're easier to rehome).
Sooooo uhhh anyone in Brisbane interested in babies in a few weeks
. Heres some tummy pics:

I saw her in the pets paradise at indooroopilly. Hah ironically where my last foster mum came from (someone bought two 'boys' and the idiots gave him a boy and a girl so I took her in) . I really should never go in there again
. Being a PEW I have no idea what genetics could be under there but some of the others who I think were her siblings were agouti, champagnes and argentes (and more PEW's) so who knows. I'll keep you updated, and hopefully you'll get a new baby to love soon

I don't think you have a *couple* of weeks - that looks pretty imminent to me!
Good luck - she's a cutie.

Wow! Has she started building a nest yet? She looks ready to pop any day now. Let us know when she does. Good luck with the future new kids.

Lol I meant they'd be ready to adopt out in a few weeks
. Not much nesting yet but she's only just settling in. A real sweetie, she spent the whole ride home snuggled in my bra, made driving a little hard but it seemed much nicer than the cardboard box. At the moment she's getting lots of baby food and lots of other goodies to hopefully get her at least somewhat closer to the size of her siblings. Her nickname is Pinkie
. I'm guessing we still have 2-3 days left, so hopefully i'll be able to get lots of good food into her before then.

She's looking a little bigger this morning. I have her in a fooferdome with my placid spayed girl Lister (live in Australia- quarantine really isn't nessecary here) so she has some ratty company. She has such a pointy face lol, very cute

I think theres a grapefruit in there
She's getting so big now, popping is immanent. I'm suprised she can still walk her bellys that big!
She's got herself a towel nest that she kind of made by accident but she loves it. She also adores walking in her wodent wheel, perhaps she'll be able to run in it soon

We can HOPE for a small litter, but with a belly that size I'm guessing at least eight. I'm surprised actually that they haven't arrived!
The towling doesn't have a weave in it, does it? Loose threads and tiny babies don't do well together. You might want to switch out with fleece scraps or papertowels.

None of those little loopy things and i've moved some pretty rainbow fleece into the nests as well. When the babies open their eyes i'm sure they'll appreciate the colour
. The last pregnant foster I had gave birth to 11, look at the size of her a full day before birth!
My friend was at the pet store a day and a half before and said none of the girls looked pregnant then, so assuming Pinkie was there at the time that would make her babies due around Friday. Gee how huge is she gonna be by then, she's gonna rival Moocow up there. Please have a small litter of big bubs

We have major nesting, and she's getting nippy and cranky so I think that babies are coming very soon.

We have eepers!!! Eight tiny babies, all with milk bands, and eeping away
. We seem to have pink, ruby and black eyes, how exciting!
She's being a good mum too. Her nest is huge and she nips me whenever I go near the bubs

Congratulations on the babies, and a nice number too! Not a tiny litter, but not too large. I hope they're all healthy, happy little squeakers ^_^

More pinkie pics! Although none of them are actually pink anymore
. They're almost 12 days old and doing great (so's mum even if she's a bit over protective
). Oh and I got my new dslr camera, but i'm still getting the hang of it
The six lighter coloured ratlets. I think there'll be some doves and PEW's, it'll be hard to tell until they open their eyes and mark up a bit.

I've been a bit slack updating this thread
. The babies are now 4 1/2 weeks old and are looking for their new forever homes
. Heres some pictures I've taken of the little cuties over the past few weeks:
These were taken two days ago. It was night and I didn't want to use the flash so it's a bit dark
These are from about a week ago
The little Black boy has a heart on his chest!
They're being a little swarm, suckling on my fingers
I love them all to bits!
