Ugh, so I found a lump on Gus right nextt to his penis. It's kind of soft and it's round. Of corse this has to be labor day so I can't take him to the vet, I have to wait until tomorrow to call.

How can you tell the difference between a possible abcess and a tumor?

I'd have him sit in a warm sitz bath for a few minutes. My guess is it's an abscess. It could be a tumor, but not as likely as a male anatomy problem.

Awwww...what a good little boy he was!  Yep, that definitely looks like the evil eye that he's giving you!  I can almost hear him saying, "you just wait until I get out of here, Mom!"

I wouldn't use peroxide to clean it because peroxide is pretty harsh to tissue.  Maybe you could get some chlorhexadine from your vet and dilute it 1:10 (one part chlorhexadine to ten parts water) and clean the area with that.  Since the abscess is so close to his penis, I'd be hesitant to clip the fur with anything so that you don't accidentally injure him further.  I think if you just keep doing the sitz baths, you'll be ok.

I diluted the peroxide with water 3/1. I've never heard of either of those solutions...are they like saline?

Nolvasan is the brand name of chlorhexadine (generic name).  They're an antiseptic type solution.  I didn't know that you could find it where horse supplies are sold...thanks for that tip!  It's a really great solution to have on hand for whenever you need to clean a wound.  The nice thing about it is that it has a residual effect.  When you apply it to the wound, the antiseptic/antibacterial effect lasts for about 3 days.

Nice! I've been around horses all my life and never seen it LoL. (Although, I'm sure if I saw the bottle I'd be like "oh THAT stuff). :-)

I would probably go with buying some Epsom salt and using that instead of table salt.

So now it's been a little over a week, and there is no longer anything to squeeze out. The bump is very small and semi-hard. Is it just healing on it's own now since I can't rinse it?

can you tell me what a sitz bath is? my girl has an absess on her vagina and I think this would help alot.
