Took the Mo Mo Cha to the e-vet today, that would be my Morgan.  We were out of town for two days and last night when we got in I just went directly to bed.  Today fed everyone and said hi and then around 2 was getting the girls out, Morgans' right eye was cloudy and bulging, badly.  Off to the vet we went, our awesome vet was thankfully at the emergency clinic today.  Numbed her eyes with some drops and checked eye pressures, right eye was very high.  Gave us drops to put in that eye to bring the pressure down, we go back Wednesday night for a quick pressure check.  As long as the drops do their job no surgery is needed.  Fingers crossed for Miss Morgan!

Did the vet have any idea what was causing the one eye to have a higher pressure like that?

Morgan has always had tear duct issues.  When I first brought her home she saw the same vet this past January to have that checked.  At that point she said to just keep an eye on her eye as nothing could be done to "fix" malfunctional tear ducts on a ratter.

Today she said that the vessels that control the eye pressure behind the eye may now also be affected by the same thing that caused the tear duct problems.  She said enucleation (eye removal) is a form of overall treatment but she is very confident the drops will do the job.

Onto bigger and better things. Last night we went and had the vet pressure check her eye to see if the pressure has gone down.  Was down a few clicks.  Vet gave us some antibiotic eye drops and some pain med eye drops as she noticed some ulceration on the eye itself.  Had the vet put the drops in there while we were thinking of it and went home to continue drops.  Talked about surgery but decided to try to save the eye as she felt it could be done.

Went home got the kids fed and all out to play.  Morgan decided for us that she wanted surgery tonight.  I noticed her scratching furiously at herself and when I immediately checked her she had ruptured the eye itself, bleeding.  I have never in my life driven so fast to the vet.  Got her there and knew she was going to do the surgery before she even told me.  Morgan came through with flying olors  Grin

I was allowed to pick her up this morning and bring her home.  She got a nice injection of pain meds to hold her thru the day til I got back from work.  Just got in a while ago and got her to take meds and eat.   Grin

After I got her home this morning she was very happy.  I got quite a licking session.   Cheeky

Awwww...poor Morgan!  Sad  So sorry that she ended up having to lose the eye.  But I'm glad that the surgery went well and hope that she will be feeling all better very quickly!!  Cookie  Heart

Yikes! Poor Morgan. My vet has told me that bulging eye(s) can also be a symptom of myco. Obviously not the case with Morgan since it became better with the drops. Lots of healing vibes for Morgan!!

Her other eye is fine thankfully.  And as for the drops, it helped a little but when she decided to scratch it and it opened up removal was the only option at that point.

Yah she is doing much better.  Currently fuming at me as she just had a bum soak and backside wash, was a bit crusty from her being so out of it so today was soak day.

She is officially off of her pain meds.  Talked to the vet today over the phone to let her know she was doing well and get some questions answered.  Well on her way to recovery, yay!!!  Has to stay out of the cage with her Merial for another day as we have to make sure it is healing well.  I don't need Merial "helping" her to get the skin glue off of her face  Roll Eyes but they get playtimes together still and I figure Morgan can use the resting alone to heal up.  Was traumatic, for me at least.

I'm so tired, this weekend so did not turn out to be relaxing. Yesterday I realized the incision was infected so I drove down to the e-vet, the one who is far away as mine was not there for rats. Mind you Hanna was also blowing thru yesterday, talk about a fun drive.  Get there and they say antibiotics and warm compresses and pain meds, don't want to open it up because its an eye socket and need to deal with it inside out with the abs.  Go home.

2-3 hours being home I realize she has pulled off the remainder of the skin glue and the infection and well it was exposed though I could only see skin and infection. Back to vet. Morgan stayed overnight last night so they could do warm compresses thru the night and possibly put her under this morning to clean it a little better. Vet just called, is not putting her under, just cleaning with warm compresses as they say it is draining well that way.

I'll be picking her up later this afternoon and hopefully since they are not doing the actual surgery the insane estimate they gave me will be bumped down some.

After a very long and tiring week Morgan was pts today.  Her eye incision was successfully cleaned out yesterday (or so we thought) and she came home last night.  Was very lethargic most of the evening last night but figured it was remains of iso as they had put her under and was told she would be quiet most of the night.  Got her to take her meds and eat a little.

Woke today to hearing massive wheezing from her cage and found her lethargic, wheezy, cold, and not interested in food.  Got her warmed up a little right away and got her antibiotics into her (had been on abs for just a week today) and off we went to the vet.  Dropped her off as vet did not have any appointments.

Vet called with info that Morgans' one lung was full of fluid and was most likely pneumonia.  Still was not holding her own temp and wouldn't eat.  My poor girl.  She tried so hard, her little body was just too tired and worn out at that point.

Play hard at the bridge baby, you will always have a place in my heart.

She is one of the black berks in this picture hanging out with her friends.
