Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to let people know how the situation turned out.

A while back in July, I post about a pregnant rat getting out and having babies where I couldn't get to them. I tried many of the things suggested, but nothing worked. I allowed the mama to stay with babies till they were 5 weeks. I got the mom put into her cage and waited 24 hours tried catching the babies. I was able to get 7 of them using food. I have three still out, that I am trying to get. One just sticks the nesting material mom had used for nest out at me  Smiley.  The little ones that I have caught, are taming down and should be able to be placed in pet homes. We have 4 dumbo eared and 3 standard. Only three are dark like mom the rest are a pretty blue/silver.

I will continue to try and get the three that are out. I'm going to start using a safe trap, because they are now starting to come out a bit. I will also try working with them to get them tame. If they end up not being fit for placement (new homes) then they will stay with me...they will NOT go for food. It was my fualt, that the mama got out..not theirs.

I just wanted to let you all know.

Do you know the sexes of the ones that are still loose?  If you've got mixed sexes, you'll be having more babies soon.    Hopefully the humane trap will work.  *fingers crossed*

Unfortunately,
I don't have any idea on the sexes of the ones still out. I do know the colors, two grey and a dark brown.
Most of the ones that I have caught are girls...5 girls and 2 boys.

They are really coming out for food now, so I think I'll have luck with the live trap.

I'll continue to keep peeps posted!

Is Mom's cage on the floor?  That also might help draw them out.  I would think they are just over 5 weeks of age?  You might have a week before seriously worrying about pregnancies.

I would bet that the remaining rats are mostly boys, at least thats's how my litter was.  We had 12 babies, 3  of which were stillborn.  We had 5 boys and 4 girls until the runt died within the first 10 days.  We are now down to 4 girls and 4 boys.  I can't say for sure, I'm just guessing (and hoping for the sake of you and them).
