i totally forgot to take pictures of the crazy! he moved in with my boys, which seems to have helped him a lot ( he is rat submissive lol,  and they are doing a good job of teaching him manners and keeping him calm) He still cannot be completely trusted with people, but he is a bit more "tolerant" he is just not a touchy rat and i doubt he ever will be.

"what do you want?"

"are you still there?"

" are you gonna bring some food or something?"

"what is that flashy thing?"

"is she gonna give me some food fender?"

" No? well in that case"

" no more pictures.. freakin paperatzzi"

I think he is a beautiful blue devil..  I'm glad i gave him a chance, even if i can't really touch him.

Awwww, he's adorable!
I dearly love my "no touch" rattie Jett. Now that he's very elderly and a bit senile, I can get away with 30 second scritches before he realizes what's going on lol! It's very rewarding seeing them live life on their own terms!

every so often i can get a quick touch.. but it scares him, he completely freezes, and will squeak on occasion, so i just leave him be for the most part. But he has realized the good food comes from me and will come to the side of the cage to investigate that. It's refreshing just to see him enjoying life, if we hadn't taken him in he would have been euthanized  Blue Dumbo Big Eyes

Ratties On My Shoulder Make Me Happy

« Reply #3 on: September 03, 2008, 04:50:28 AM »

Awe! My first rattie, Pansy, is a 'no touch me' rattie. We even have a system worked out for getting her to and from the play area without having to be picked up. I use a basket to carry her around. She loves it! When its time to go play I hold the basket up to the cage door and she hops in. When its time to go back, I say 'basket!' and she climbs into her basket because she knows when she gets back to the cage she'll get a treat.

oh thats a good idea, we have a hard time getting him out of the cage to clean it. he hates leaving it as it makes him feel secure.  he loves those gerber yogurt melts though and will go alot further to get one of those then he will for anything else.

Try putting something in which Cujo can hide in the basket at first, like a piece of PVC pipe. That will make him feel more secure about going into it. (Also curious to explore the new toy) That trick has worked with other rats I have to get them started going in the basket.  Smiley

life without rats is like life without air

we had to do that with Mr. Binx. He had this house we used to transport him in. I would put it in front of him and he would just climb in it.
