So we were searching on craigslist for a cage for our fosters and we came upon a great deal for a Super Pet Critter Cage! We get to the girls house and we started talking about how we foster rats and she says "Are you serious! I have two upstairs that I am trying to find a home for." We then explained that we are on a rat forum and that we make sure they go to great homes. She was so excited and ran upstairs and brought them down in a ten gallon tank that was cracked and had hardware cloth that wasn't securely attached as a make shift lid
This was because they were suppose to be going to some girl who had no idea what she was doing tomorrow. Now they are back in their Critter Cage with fresh food, water, and bedding. They are absolutely adorable and the biggest man rats I've ever seen!
Ben is a red eyed Himalayan and Nixon is an agouti hooded.
These boys are very sweet and have never bitten anyone. They are both about a year old. They also love to be held and get kisses! They are very curious and Nixon loves to have his ears scratched. They will go together as they are bonded.
Goodie Bag for whoever adopts these boys!

Oh my, they just tug at my heart. My first two rats, Milo and Mr Smuckers, were a himi and agouti hooded. I miss them SO much and have really been missing them lately. Hubby said I can't adopt again this year but I'm definitely interested in keeping up with their posts! I'd be willling to donate a hammock for each of them. Just PM me with where to send them.

This is so strange. I posted an ad on craigslist for my missing rats and this woman contacted me to ask if I was thinking about adopting. Since I have an empty cage and all of their old toys, I figured I might as well take in a pair. i thought it would help me recover from the pain of losing my babies and I'd be helping her out at the same time because she said she was having a baby and couldnt take care of them anymore. The names of the rats she was giving away were ben and nixon! We had a really good conversation on the phone and had agreed for her to bring them over today, but I contacted her yesterday to tell her that I had to work last minute and asked if she was available to bring them on Friday. She sent me a response that she had decided to keep them after all. Did she think that maybe I was flaking? Because I still would love to adopt them... and I even cleaned and prepped the cage for them the other day before I knew I had to work.... Im a little confused. Maybe it was jsut easier for her to give them to you rather than drive them? In any case... I would still love to adopt them and I have all the time and resources to give them a good home...

She said that she was unsure of what to do because of the circumstances of how your rats were lost and also that I guess at the time you talked you did not have a cage for them.

Maybe she misunderstood me? But when we spoke on the phone I told her that I had an extra cage available because of the stolen boys and that I even planned on upgrading to much larger cages. (I currently have a cage that is too small for my girls and want to put them in a ferret nation) so Ben and Nixon were supposed to get the girls' larger cage.
The offer is still on the table if the boys are available. If you want to pay me a visit to make sure that they're going to a good home first than that's fine with me.

We are sorry but we do not feel safe with giving them to you due to some of the incidences that have occured

Are you through a rescue or on your own? What is the adoption process/fee?

You won't let her adopt your rats becuase her rats got kidnapped while she was moving in to her apartment? I don't think that's very fair. Everyone makes a mistake or 2 with their pets. I know I have, but Kim's Ark saw past my mistake and saw that I honestly care about my animals and still allowed me to adopt from them. I think you 2 should talk one on one about the situation and not base it all on hearsay. Bobbleheadedbuddah, I feel for you. One of my boys was taken from me prematurely, and I was so hurt at myself for what I did. Unfortunately, I can never have him back. I hope you can find a new pair of boys, even if Allygurl66 won't see past your obviously heartwrenching mistake/ordeal that you have been going through. Try Kim's Ark. They seem to be very understanding about situations that happen beyond our control I'm sure they have a few rats available for adoption near you.

Well, arumberg...... We are very understanding about things that happen beyond our control...THIS was NOT beyond her control! She left her 3 baby rats in a carrier , unattended, on a curbside of an apartment building, in Boston.....I don't care how long it was for, it only takes a minute. You don't leave living beings you care about in potentially dangerous situations like that. Would you leave an infant sitting on the curb for 5 minutes while you go upstairs to unpack? C'mon....we aren't being unreasonable.....yes I do feel bad, but she was completely responsible for it, no matter how unfortunate it turned out to be.

Arumberg, you need to calm down. This is not your battle and Allygurl has her reasons for denying adoption. It doesn't matter if you agree or not.
Reminder that the adoption section is not open to discussions.
Allygurl, could you please answer my questions?

I sent my response to Allygurl in a private message because, as I stated to her, this thread is intended to find homes for Ben and Nixon, not to debate whether I am a good rat owner or not. but now that my character has come under fire, I believe I should have the opportunity to briefly defend myself to everyone on this forum. Therefore I direct you to the original post that I made about the kidnapping in the "rat tails and mug shots" forum, where this conversation can continue.

I sent you a PM a few hours ago I guess you did not get it but it said that we are on our own but we have had a previous foster put up as a curiosity listing on the Mainely Rat Rescue. We do not charge a fee we only want to make sure that the rats go to educated and loving homes to spend the rest of their lives. We do some research on where they will be housed, how many rats someone has, and how long the person has owned rats etc. Hope that answers your question.....We are in it completely for the rats and pay for everything out of pocket with nothing in return but the satisfaction that they have found their forever home.
