Love me, love my rats!

Hello all!  This is the re-posting of a thread that was moved to another section!

We recently snagged 10 young ladies from a pretty bad situation and have been trying for the past few weeks to find them homes.  We still have 5 of these young ladies available for adoption.. Please contact us if you're interested in giving them their forever home!

These young ladies are about 11-12 weeks old at this point.  They are dumbos.. and have the sweetest personalities you've ever come across.  They are all highly socialized with people and other rats.  They like to snuggle, ride in their bonding pouch and run on their wheel.  They were originally all on pregnancy watch but we're not expecting any babies at this point.  (I know a lot of you were hoping to adopt babies if we had any.. sorry!  But I am glad the way it turned out.. There are so many others that still need homes.. including these girls!)

I had originally posted this website (http://www.adoptions.passionate-eye.org) to help find them homes, but now that we have so few left, I'm able to post their pictures here!  We are located in Richmond, VA and need to find homes for these girls as soon as possible.

Pretty sure!  Have the others had their spays yet?  They would be under pregnancy watch til 8/1/08 (at the very latest.. giving them 23 days for gestation) but they're all so skinny..  I just can not imagine them popping out babies.  They have been gaining weight but nothing to suggest that it's abnormal for their ages.

No, the 3 girls haven't been spayed yet. Kay wanted to give them some time to adjust since they seem a little scared. Since they don't seem to be pregnant, there is no rush. I might see them on Monday!

We could only bring them as far as D.C. or Maryland. Sad  It would be nice if we could form some sort of transport.  Gas prices make transport more difficult.  Puppy Dog Eyes:

We have received a lot of interest in these girls from Tennessee!  If we could arrange to get all/most of these girls headed to homes in Tennessee, my husband and I will make the trip to get them there!  If you're from Tennessee or can meet us in Tennessee and are interested in adopting some of these girls, let us know!  We can come as soon as this coming weekend!

THESE LAST FIVE GIRLS MAY HAVE FOUND THEIR FOREVER HOME!   Heart

We just need help getting them there! *lol*  These girls currently reside in Richmond, VA and their new home is in New York!  My husband and I are looking into taking them on the train... (Don't know if they would be allowed on the train, but we're checking into it... I'd hate for them to have to be stored like luggage.)

My husband and I can drive a good part of the way there.  Anyone know of any rat trains headed to New York from a state around here?  Or even from PA to NY?  I have a feeling the drive total would be around 8-12 hours.  If we had help to cover just the last few of those hours, we can make it work.  Anyone have any ideas??

I think I'll be going to Philly area (actually closer to Allentown/Bethlehem) on Saturday, August 16th... arriving very late (after 10 pm).  I'll also be transporting 6 greyhounds BUT I can keep the ratties and the greys separated.  Just let me know if you need my help.

Seriously?  That sounds really good.  Let me find out if the new mommy can possibly meet you there.  I'll be in touch.  (That would be fabulous.)

I'm in Toano, VA (between Williamsburg and Richmond).  I have three girls, Belladonna (the mum), Merry and Pippin (two of her pups, about 7 weeks old now) and could take another!

And if they aren't the sweetest, cuddliest, darlingest little girls, then I don't know my toes from my fingers LOL.  They have played and cuddled . . . and cuddled and played . . . and played and cuddled . . . *sigh* of happiness.
I think it says a whole lot about the wonderful foster-mama and foster-daddy they had between their beginning and this stage in their lives that they're such loving and trusting wee girls.
Couldn't be happier,

YAY!!!

I'm glad that the last three girls have found a greyt home!!!

Marilyn and Wren (Wren esp.) are still a little shy with us but everyday they become more outgoing.  They definitely like being cuddled more than my other rats in a different sort of way.  I can't wait to start introductions to my other rats next week.  I gave them a wodent wheel last night and I think Marilyn has been running non-stop.  I also set up the spare play-pen that I had in storage and she really liked being able to explore.  As long as they get along with my other rats, they'll have a large play area to be in all of the time.

OOh, Sheila, what kind of playpen do you use?  I tried a small pet pen and my ratties climbed right out.  Then I tried my daughters' old playpen, and they climbed right up the soft sides.  Now I just let them play in the playroom and made a special play area full of my daughters's playhouses (and they also use their blocks to make new houses for the ratties).  This is fine for home, but at school I'd like to be able to let them explore in a secure area -- my greatest fear is that they'll go out in the hallway, or into a duct that I haven't found, and be "treated" as wild  Angry
Thanks!

For the portable/temporary playpen, I cut a sheet of 1/4 inch pressed board into sections about 24 inches high and then cut slits to make them fit together (I think I got the idea from Wonder Rodent.. I think that's who it was).  It's secure (as long as they aren't jumpers and then you could make it higher) and they can have a fun time playing in it.  I also have a permanent playpen structure that I built using 1/2 plywood and hinges that I secured to the wall.  That is where the older rats live.  They have a FN cage with one door removed and they have access to the play area at all times.  I also cut windows in it near the floor that I covered with plexiglass so that they can see out.  I'll see if I can get pics posted in another thread.

That's so great!  Yay!  Were they adopted together or separately?  I've been wondering about them! Smiley

Their sister Scarlett (now "Lealu") had a litter of babies and there is one female still available.. so I guess she would be their neice? *lol*  Isn't she adorable??
