Althea and Korin have had a lot of tough breaks in their lives. These adorable (and chubby!) agouti sisters originally came to HVRR as youngsters in November, 2007, from a sad situation. They came from someone who kept them along with three other rats (two males and one other female) in a 10 gallon aquarium on cedar bedding and fed an inadequate diet. After Korin had a litter and all the babies died, their owner realized she could not care for all of the rats and turned them over to HVRR. They were both spayed 11/6/07.
Korin and Althea were adopted together last December. However, they were recently returned when the adopter's favorite rat died, because they weren't as outgoing as the rat who died.

They were returned in good condition, other than being overweight. The girls are about a year old now, and looking for a new home where they'll be wanted for the rest of their days. They must be adopted together. They have reportedly nipped in the past while inside their cage, but I have not had any problems with them. Unless licking is considered a problem.

They do sometimes mouth fingers without pressure. Korin is a very curious girl, and will come right up to me for petting. She is a bit nervous at being picked up, but is fairly easy to handle. Althea is more shy, but appreciates petting and also gives kisses. Both girls are definitely more comfortable and at ease inside the cage, but have made progress outside of it as well. I would prefer they go to an experienced home, since I don't want them to be returned a second time.
I'd really like these girls to get the permanent home they deserve. I might be able to arrange transport, so please don't hesitate to ask.
