Is there any sort of average (maybe a male/female breakdown) that some one can compile via the data? It would be interesting to see breakdowns based on male/female, type of illness, petstore vs breeder vs rescue, etc.

I have had one rat die - Squiggle. She was a gray/brown hooded rat, who died at between five and six weeks old, of unknown causes. We have two of her littermates still with us, who are both fine. She was bred by us from two petshop rats.

Sigh.
Another one.
A really sad one.
Sully, adopted from an oops litter from petstore mom. Rats bred on site at independent pet shop.
16 months, pneumonia induced by CHF.
Family history is showing CHF... mother died at 18 months, one day before Sully, heart issues.
Two other siblings so far have died of probable heart related illness. Of his litter of 8, only four have made it to 17 months. Other siblings are showing signs of possible CHF.
His brother, Jonesy, lost at 10 months during a surgery due to bad response to anethestic may have also had heart issues that affected his reaction to the iso.
Bad business, all around.

Skwisgaar, Male, 23 months old - Euthenized due to constant life struggle with respiritory issues compounded with severe weightloss, a new found mammary tumor, and an ulceration of his right eye. Would have easily lived another 3-4 months but would have definitely been in severe pain says the vet.

Euthanized my female rat at 23 months due to deterioration from suspected pituitary tumor.
She was unaltered and originally from a small local pet shop where one of the owner's rats had babies.

All my boys have passed.
Mr.jones - Russian blue dumbo. 1yr 4mo. Adopted from a woman who worked at a pet store. Multiple things all at once ( stroke, URI, and he was p'ing blood) he was euthinized.
Ludo - (mr.jones' bother) Russian Blue hoody, 1yr 6mo. Unsure of why he died showed no signs of illness. (I think he missed his brother)
Rocco - Choc. Berk, 3+ yrs not sure of his exact age the girl i adopted him from saved him from being set free by an acquantiance. He was euthinized because he was no longer eating or drinking, after we found out his tumor grew back near his lungs.

Ruby - Female PEW - approx. 19 months. From a pet store.
Her immune system was next-to-nothing as a result of having mammary cancer at a young age (14 months). Died from the ensuing frequent health conditions (skin yeast infection, respiratory infections, and tilt with unknown cause) that weakened her over a period of about 4-5 months.
