Adoption Center Rules - REQUIRED READING - NO DISCUSSIONS
« on: May 16, 2010, 08:54:53 AM »
I've decided to condense and organize the Adoption Center Guidelines for easy reading.

1. If you are posting, YOU should be the one offering the rats for adoption. If you are not, you need to have DIRECT permission from the person who is adopting them out, and be able to PROVE it if asked. If you are part of a rescue, pick a designated person to post the adoptions and be the contact.

2. Please only make ONE post per rat/group of rats. Multiple posts for the same rat/group will be removed. If it's been a few weeks and they still need homes, REPLY to the existing thread to "bump" it and remind people that homes are still needed.

3. Please include your location in the TITLE of your thread. Unless you live in a MAJOR city (think Toronto, Chicago, NYC, Los Angeles, San Diego), please include your STATE and COUNTRY (if outside the US). Town names are reused nationwide, so a smaller town name may not be enough information.

4. NO DISCUSSIONS, period. The Adoption Center is for finding good homes for rats ONLY. It is NOT to be used for general discussion. If you're interested in the rats being offered for adoption, post, then make further arrangements via private message. If you're the thread author and want to bump your post or update your post once it has dropped to the second page, this is also fine.

5. Mind your business. If you want to lecture about "responsible breeding", say how cute the babies are, etc., DO NOT post.  They WILL be removed. Posters that persist will be given warnings, and entered into the "Three Strike System," which can result in a suspension or permanent ban from the community. Show people the same respect you would like to be shown.

6. Craigslist ads are NOT to be posted, under ANY circumstances. They will be removed ON SIGHT. Same goes for the Canadian site, Kajiji.

Thank you!

If there are still questions about the NO DISCUSSIONS rule, this should clarify things:

If you are not in one of the following two parties, you should not be posting in a thread in this section, for ANY reason.

Party A: A person or group posting rats available for adoption.

Party B: A person seeking to adopt, either by making a "rats wanted" post, or inquiring about available rats in an existing post.

If you care to speak with someone, and are not in Party A or Party B, that's what Private Message is for. HOWEVER. it is NOT to be used to question someone's motives, or judge them, or anything negative. If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all. It's not your personal business to meddle in. There's no heckling or chatter in a newspaper's classifieds ad section, yes? This section is nothing more than a classified section intended to place rats in good homes. Period.

Thank you.

If you, as a breeder, would like to offer pups for sale or adoption, we require that you are a member of the forum for at least three (3) months, and have accumulated 100 posts, to establish yourself as a contributing member of our community.

Posts should be as meaningful as possible, and not just "cute pet" comments on photos, or "me too" posts in other discussions. The more meaningfully you contribute, the more likely you will be trusted by our members, which is good all around.

It is our hope that people will not find ways to cheat or abuse this system. If this does become an issue, our next logical step would be to establish an application process, requiring staff approval for breeders offering litters. We would like to avoid this at all costs, as it is a lot of extra work for our volunteer staff. We all have lives outside the forum.  ;)

Thanks for your understanding! If you have any questions, please feel free to send any mod a PM.

Because there have been a lot of problems with this recently, we're going to have to start instituting a penalty.  NO DISCUSSIONS on threads here.  We are keeping track, and if you are found to be a repeat offender, you will get a suspension from the forum.  And it doesn't matter if someone else started it first, or if you think you had a really good reason to discuss things.  The rule exists for a reason.  No discussion.  Period.

We really hate to have to instate a penalty like this, but we sort of feel like we're being forced into a corner because so many people refuse to listen when we set out rules and guidelines.
