Title: Looking for a Cage
Post by: ..Shea.. on September 02, 2007, 01:07:27 AM
I'm looking to get a new cage, and want all of your guys/gals's help.

A cage that I was looking at on Ebay is the one pictured here. It is in my price range (including shipping), and is nice sized. (I only have one rat now...but hopefully that will change soon)

I'm also open to any suggestions for cages.

Another question I have is bar spacing for female rats.

Same cage with comments (http://www.goosemoose.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,118/forum,rat/topic,4026077.msg4267249/,#msg4267249)

And females can escape from 1" bar spacing.  It's best to have 1/2" x 1" at the most.

Alright. Thanks for the link.
I'll remember no bigger than 1", but I'll look for cages 1/2".

I have the Feisty Ferret, which has 7/8" spacing.  I have 2 smaller males and they aren't even CLOSE to being able to get through that.  Babies could, for sure.  Those w/ females -- do you think they could get through 7/8".

Here is the cage. I REALLY like it.

This is where I got mine -- great price and I got it in 3 days.

This 2nd cage has a wire floor - big no-no for rats!(http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Others/no-218.gif)

Have you tried your local craigslist or kijiji?  I've picked up some nice cages for next to nothing using local listings.

Could easily cover the wire floor, though.  :)  Might be hard to clean, but it's an okay deal, when you consider shipping.

The wire on the bottom can be removed and I was thinking of covering all other wire surfaces.

I think that's a pretty good cage!  The size is nice.   As for the wire floor, what's the difference of having a wire floor vs wire shelves and upper floors?  Same thing, it's not a big deal.

I agree with Dearpie!

I see nothing wrong with the wire floor either.  Lots of cages have wire floors on all the levels.

Thanks. I think I'm going to opt for the second one.  ;D
