Title: New babies coming! Cage question.
Post by: fearlessella on March 13, 2016, 04:44:52 PM
I'm going to be getting new babies in a few weeks and I just wanted an opinion.   I got them a new big cage and a wodent wheel, but in general with little babies I start them off in a smaller cage and then move them when they get bigger.   What do you guys generally do?  (The bars have the same spacing do no worrying about getting out!)  Thanks!

I've never worried about it, one way or the other.  Unless there's some point I'm missing, I suppose it's just a matter of personal preference.  I like to give the rats as much space as possible; I also don't have that much room in my studio apartment for extra cages, especially since I've taken on a couple of chinchillas, who came to me with an enormous home-made cage.  Of course, there might be room for another cage if I could clear out some of the clutter . . . good incentive, huh? (LOL)

The biggest the cage the better, that us as long as it is easy to clean/you have time to clean it. Baby rats need more room if anything than adult rats because they are more active. What cage did you get?

I have a 695, but it's just too difficult to clean so I got a 670.  It will work great for a few girls.  I had a smaller cage my last set of girls were in, but I got the chance to upgrade and it'S all new!  Big cage it is!  Thanks!
