Title: Critter Nation Pans
Post by: idogiam on June 03, 2016, 10:36:30 PM
So I'm buying a DCN tomorrow (for just my two boys! They're going to have an obscene amount of room >.<) because there's a girl near me selling one for $125. My brother can make pans for the cage out of aluminum and get them powder-coated very cheaply. So my question is, is aluminum safe to use as a material for a rat cage? It will be powder-coated, but I figured I'd check to be sure first. I asked about stainless steel, but it would cost about the same as it would to buy them from Bass, without shipping, so I'd much rather do aluminum.

Aluminum will be fine.  With aluminum, you could probably get away with not painting it, but powder-coating is a great finish, so if your brother can get it done cheaply, go for it!  You could also do regular steel, which would be a lot cheaper than stainless, since your going to powder-coat it.
