Rat Care Corner / Re: soaked lab blocks

When I need to make mush out of lab blocks for old rats, I grind it into a powder and mix it with their favorite baby food.  I use a mortar and pestle so I can make the powder very fine, or leave it a little chunky, and then as I need it I add as much or as little baby food to make it the consistency they like --- some like it very soupy, others like it more like a thick paste  :)

Hi gramma2jaakk. I asked on another site and was told about 5 days and that it will get an odd smell if it is going bad. Others said that toss leftovers after the 3rd day which is what I will do. It shouldn't take long to figure out about how many blocks are needed to last 3 days.  :)

I'm not sure, but I'm giving you an answer so you know someone has looked at your post. I would also be interested in this, so when I get rats again I'll know. This is a good question!

Rat Care Corner / soaked lab blocks
« Last post by Deblee on January 28, 2019, 08:26:47 AM »
Hi, can anyone tell me how long Harlan blocks soaked in water will stay good in the refrigerator? I have to soak it for my two old boys. They love it mixed with a little baby cereal. I soak about 8 blocks at a time, stir and keep in fridge. Not sure how long it will last before I need to throw it away and make more.

Thanks,
Deb
