Here's Stan, by the way.

I don't know how this wound up in "Home Squeak Home". Could the moderator move it for me?
Home Squeak Home / R.I.P. Finn and question
« Last post by RattyRodent on January 07, 2019, 08:51:38 PM »
We lost Finn today, one of three rats we adopted a few years ago along with Stan and Ollie. Ollie passed away earlier this year. We were shocked to find that Finn had passed away tonight.

Now we have only Stan left. What really saddens me is that, despite being at least two years old, Stan is still very healthy and lively. We really hate the thought of him living alone, but we don't know what to do. Bringing in another rat could be a problem. We'd have to find one near Stan's age and that might be hard. Bringing in baby rats might be too much for him. Suggestions please.
How is Miles doing?

Thank you. He's perked up today, but a little bit of stress of trying to give him medicine in the sink made his lungs croaky, which scared me a bit. I'm sure it has something to do with myco, but I can't seem to get rid of it if that's the case. He is 2.5 years old, and I know that doesn't help. He greeted me normally when I got home and waited for his graham cracker with medicine, which I am down to one of now, and will decide what to do by morning. If he's still stable, I'll see if it's worth the risk of waiting until the 26th for my vet to reopen.
Sorry Miles isn't feeling well.  I haven't dealt with this specific issue, but whenever there's a problem with inflammation my vet prescribes Meloxicam.  Good luck with your boy

My rat Miles has been sneezing blood for over a month, and I've had him in and out of the vet for a diagnosis, and on multiple rounds of medication. We did an X-ray and they found no sign of masses, only that his left nostril was inflamed. Tonight, he went into respiratory distress after a bloody sneezing fit, and started gasping from his mouth at the back of his cage. I thought I was going to lose him...

I have a humidifer going now, and gave him 0.5 ml (maybe less, since it spilled off) children's benedryl on a graham cracker as advised by my vet. Do I just keep doing what I'm doing and hope for the best until I can pick up steroids from the vet when they're open? Also, has anyone else had an experience like this, and what happened?
Rat Tails & Mug Shots / Re: Rattie Giving Trees 2018

Some of the rescues do not have very many ornaments flipped! We have less than 2 weeks left of this fundraiser. They ALL work so hard to help the animals!

Up to three trees are set up to help each of the rescues that have registered with The Travelin' Rat during 2018. These rescues deal with surrenders and hoarding situations and abuse cases all year long and we'd like to help bring some joy to them this holiday season!
If you would like to participate in this event, click on a tree link under each rescue, then click on an ornament to see more info about one of the rescue's animals and a donation button. You are welcome to click on and donate through as many ornaments and as many different rescue trees as you would like. A star with sparkles and an ornament that displays the recipient's photo have been donated to, but you can still make your donation out to that ornament. Please note that if the ornaments you wanted to donate through have already been used, you can always use the donate button underneath each tree.

Any and every amount is appreciated. We also have wishlists for the rescues in case you would like to send supplies to help them. Please note that donations go directly to each rescue, they DO NOT go to The Travelin' Rat. Rescues that have been granted 501(c)(3) status are marked with an asterisk (*), indicating that donations to them are tax-deductible in accordance with the law. For deductibility information, please check each rescue's website,,, or check with your tax advisor.

Thank you for any help that you can give, whether donating or sharing this fundraiser. 💗 We can't do this without all of you. We'd love for this to be a huge event and make the holidays a little brighter for the rescues this year!

Thank you to Shane Riley for ALL of his effort on this project! It could not be a reality without him!
Participating rescues:

Our Little Rat Rescue, Inc. - Oklahoma
RAT NATION OF PITTSBURGH/ Pittsburgh Rat Lovers Club and Rescue
Rattie Ratz
Small Angels Rescue

My last time out lasted less than two weeks.   But these guys are heartbreaking indeed. My next respite will be longer, methinks.  So sorry for another loss.
