I got mine yesterdayyyy!! I was out all night so when I came in at 4am it was all set up and in it's spot (thanks boyfriend!)!!!! And I tried to prepare myself for it's largeness because everyone says it's bigger than they expected, but it was so much bigger than I expected lol.

I'm going to move them into it tonight and I'll take pictures when I'm done getting it ready.

Thank you! The entire set, minus the knitted one that doesn't match, is from Dearpie! ;D

Ok Schrute, we have all now seen your hammock collection...we know you have more hammocks to fill that cage :yelcutelaugh: :wink5:

Seriously, your new hammocks are very pretty.  We need to see your cage filled with your adorable ratties :)

Everyone's cages look great.  GooseMoose ratties are very lucky!

Hahaha... I know, but I'm so funny about matching colors and stuff, and I don't want to have a bunch of random hammocks when Dearpie provided me with such a gorgeous coordinating set! ;D

Everyone is STILL out at this hour (they're out pretty much all day Saturday and Sunday), but I'll try to get some pics of them exploring their new hammies tomorrow! :)

Then, when I get my cozy cups from you, I can show off my guinea pigs enjoying them in the Pocket Pets section! ;)

It was a lot bigger than I expected too! I played with the FNs in PetSuperMarket, and I was expecting it be about that size, but they must have a smaller one for a floor model or something, because I know that the CN that I got is much bigger than what I saw at the store! It's great though. I don't think the rats quite know what to do with all of the space yet.  ;D

I saw a FN at PetZoo (being used for chinchillas), and it looked sooo tiny. I thought mine was bigger than normal, but the one in the store just looks small because its in a big open building instead of in a house. (at least thats what my mom and I came up with! :P)

Sounds like my roommate when he purchased a living room set that our living room wasn't exactly big enough for....his reason:
"It looked smaller at the store!" (Of course it did, you went to a WAREHOUSE!!)

So I usually never do "themed" or color coordinated cages because I just put in whatever is clean/whatever fits... but i just finished up sewing a bunch of safari animal hammocks and hadn't used any, so I thought I'd make this weeks "theme" a jungle/safari.  I found some cute bathmats at Target along with a safari animal baby blanket...  pics of my first matching cage setup below!! (The orange fleece hammock has hippos on it, although they're kind of odd looking hippos with stars on their tails, but they're hippos, which is my mom's favorite animal and so she asked me to put that hammock in with the safari stuff...  ::))

the whole thing...

top level...

bottom level...

I'm sure in all of two days it will be "ruined" because I'll have to take out something to clean... but for now I'm enjoying it!  (I dont think the rats have noticed the difference)

I am heading out to Target tomorrow.  I REALLY hope they have those jungle animal bathmats!  They are WAY too cute and would be perfect for my boys' guinea pig cages. :hyper:

i felt the same.  ive seen an fn before at a store up on a shelf all put together, but it seemed so much smaller than my cn, even now.  i gues sbecause its at a large building and my cn is almost or rather is too big for my room.  but i love it.  it wouldnt amaze me so much if it didnt stick out so far from the wall lol

Yaaaaay! Not as exciting as some on here, but I'm working on unburying my sewing machine. And waiting for some hammocks in the mail.

I like how somehow it ended up being blue.. they LOVE their bottom bunk. In the old cage they lived in their basket, but now it's all about the bottom bunk. I'm sure I'll be posting some "action shots" soon! AH I Love it.

I really love those little blue storage tubs being bunk beds! I have the extra large ones of those that I tipped over to use as pigloos. :) Those are really cute!

Hi everyone.  I'm enjoying this thread immensely as I am soon to be a new grammie to three little boy ratties.  My daughter has her new CN on it's way and this thread has helped me figure out what to make for the little furballs.   My poor sewing machine has never seen so much use.  lol

LOL, heck. I just bought a sewing machine for the main purpose of making sleeping spots for the rats.

My husband tried to explain this to the roommates, when they asked why I bought a sewing machine. He settled on "Because she could." LOL

You have a very smart husband.  lol.  I'm trying to get a bunch of hammies, cuddle cups, cube thingys and tubes done for her so she has a bunch on hand.  Then she can swap out for laundry and such easily.  There are so many lovely fabrics out there as well so I'm having fun.  It gives me a good excuse to use up some of my fabrics I have kicking around and gets my creative side bubbling as well.  I'm also trying to get a bunch of things made for the local rat rescue as well so maybe they could send along a few hammies with the kids when they get adopted out.  I myself would love to adopt a few but with two very good hunters for cats and two border collies it's not in the cards.  My fur kids would have issues I think and it wouldn't be fair to the little ratties.  So I'll spoil my grandrats instead eh.  lol

I don't know... It just seemed shorter in the store or something. My CN is supposed to be an inch taller than me (my dad says we're about even, lol), but the FN in the store was shorter than that.

Not only did I get a sewing machine for making things for the rats, but I learned to sew to make things for the rats! I'm slowly getting better at it. The rats, for the most part, seem to appreciate my hard work. lol

I've really had fun figuring out the sewing machine - so far I've made two sets of liners, plus matching cubes, hammocks, pockets, etc.  Last week, I made a tube/snake, but these photos are of a different set.  I also used finishing bias tape a lot on the first set - around the entrance holes to the cube, for example.  But this week I figured out how to slip stitch - much easier than messing around with bias tape!  My fingers are sore due to my poor hand stitching skills for finishing items...   ::)   This week's creations:

I also bought my sewing machine to learn to sew for my rats lol.  The girl at work showed me how to use it and sew some hammocks I had showed her, and says to me "I never in my life would have thought I'd be sewing rat hammocks ha ha ha"  Who knows maybe one day I will learn to sew other stuff too :)

I am so impressed by the "professional" sewers on this forum - having tried to replicate their work (for home use, not for sale), my respect has only increased.      But the sewing has really helped me to enjoy the CN even more.  It makes it more interactive, I guess.  Of course, the rats could care less - so long as they have something soft and clean on which to rest their little rumps!  LOL

It's been a lot of fun to see everyone's creative ideas.  Everyone's cages look great!!  I am hoping to glean additional ideas to make their cage fun, such as new ways to hage tubes or useful items from around the house that can be good play things to keep them from getting bored.  This thread (and forum in general) is such a great source for new ideas!
