Ok, so I totally caved, took back my other cage, and got a CN, one until.  I'm getting three girls, so I'm sure the spacing will be great for them.

Anyone know what it's like to keep five in one unit?  I know that the rat space calculator said nine could stay in, but once you add bed and toys and whatnot...I don't want them to be overcrowded if i decide to expand in a few months.

I wish I could have splurged and bought the two level.  Oh well.  Someday when I've got the money I will, and then I'll donate my CN to HVRR in exchange for some more rats! :)

You are including the stand in the dimensions.  A 1 level will hold 6 not 9.

Ah, I was!  Thanks for pointing that out.

Well, at max I only plan on five right now, so it'll still be ok, right? (getting three for sure Sunday, considering helping someone out by taking another two next month)  A little tight.  But I'm saving up the money for the double anyhow.

I can't wait until it arrives.  I'm going to go pic crazy between decorating it and my babies :).

How do you make these green and white polka dot pads?  I love them!!

Well I bought the polka dot fabric at walmart for $2.44 a yard (only needed 1 yard) and I bought a yard of fleece for the under side for $4.44 a yard. For the bigger pan I just measured it to be about 28x24 and sewed it like you would a normal hammock (printed sides together, sew around 3 edges, turn inside out) then I took batting sheets from walmart and cut them to fit inside the "pocket". I sealed the open side then I sewed up and down to keep the batting in place. I did the same process for the smaller pad.

Hope that helps,
Lauren

Thank you so much!!  I just went to Walmart and got a bunch of really cute frog fabric, so I will try to make some comfy pads for my kids.  Is that batting safe to use with chewers?  That is my only concern and I want to make sure it will be safe for them!!

Thanks so much

I would think it is safe. The batting "sheets" aren't loose like pillow stuffing so it is harder for them to pull it out. Mine occasionally will chew the corners, but they don't really mess with the batting.

Yay, my new computer arrived yesterday which means I was finally able to upload all the pictures from my camera to the computer! :) My CN last week

and a few action shots

Fuzz and a very chubby looking Riley playing with their new bird toy(I swear she isn't that fat in real life! She is a very petite girl.. she just doesn't photograph well :P)

Silly mommy, why would I want to sleep inside when I can sleep on top?

From left: Juno, Riley and Bella

My favorite picture of my little Bella :)

I redid the cage tonight, but have't been able to get any good picture(my room has the worst lighting), so I'm hoping to get some tomorrow and post those as well :)
The dogs: Sara and Lola. The kitties: Emy and Molly

Ahh!! How the heck did you seperate the comfort wheel from the stand?! Or is it on the outside of the cage? I have been boggled for months.  It seems like mine is in there permenantly. I have tried to take it off, but I didn't want to break the whole thing.  It would be so much easier to clip it to the wall.
Owned by three kittehs (Raja, Adrian and Audrina), and two pups (Sunny and John). Currently on a break from ratties.

By breaking four fingernails and making my hands bleed :) It was soo hard to get it off. I think I lubbed it up with a bit of Pam, but it didn't help much. I just tugged and tugged and then all of a sudden my hand was wet and the stand was across the room. IT HURT.

Ouch.

My 2 females (RIP) actually removed the Comfort Wheel from the stand while in running in it.

I'm not sure how they did it, but once they did, I was never able to put it back on the stand! LOL

I haven't been able to either! When I had my exotics still, I tried to because the cage bars began to sag a bit where I put the wheel, but it wouldn't go on! Gah. I don't even know where the stand is now...

Good luck!

I think when I got mine off I had the stand between my legs and the base part was under my thigh. Then I just tugged like crazy! I hope you get yours off painlessly! :)

My boys & their cage today. :)

**PS I have no clue what I was trying to make with the thing in the right corner of the cage. It wasn't suppose to resemble anyone's personal design, so if it does, I apologize!**

It's ok to make things like other people's designs as long as you are not selling them  :thumbsup2:  Cage looks great!

lilratlady- I love your elephant tube!

I took some pics tonight. It was cleaned on Tuesday, and it's not completely wrecked yet, but it is a little messy.

I've seen five in a hamster sized run about ball, so I don't think anything's physically impossible for rats!  :yelcutelaugh: They do love the treehouse though.

I was told when I bought mine that playskool doesn't make that one anymore, so they are hard to find. I looked all over too! There's a used kids stuff store near me where I finally found it. They had a castle last time I was there, that I should've bought... maybe I'll go back and see if it's still there. Our Goodwill never has any good kid rat toys. I always find the best stuff at that kids store.
