New Liners (doesn't picture the scrub down)

Julie still trying to figure out the idea of the stairs

And here is Sam's impersonation of a polar bear. =)

Not nearly as fun as everyone else's or as fun as usual...I went with more "royal" colors this time...So it turned out kind of boring (not what I was going for)

I changed out liners, hammocks, and did a wipe down.  I know others have said it, but I have too.  I can not believe how easy it is to clean and decorate this cage.  The doors coming right off is so awesome.  I decided to try towels for the pan liners this time.  If it works out well I will be buying some more.  No pics, cam has no charge, and my cage is pretty much just like the last time except for towels.

misslasagna,  all of your rats are so cute!  Julie looks like she is loving the CN!

Grace your cage looks adorable! I love that it matches your room, too. :P
I've been considering getting a 161 but I just had a blip of thought that I should get a 162 since you just have two lucky spoiled girls in yours! Ahhh why did you do that! Now it's $100 more! ...We'll see.  :yelcutelaugh:

How do you get the fleece to pinch under the second levels like that? I tried and can't do it...haha

You mean on the shelves? I wrap the fleece around the plastic insert and keep it upside down, then I take the wire shelf and turn it upside down on top of the insert, I tuck the insert with fleece into the two long wires on the shelf, and then I do the two little corners and it's done! Honestly, I like the binder clips better, I just haven't unpacked them yet :P Hope that made sense!

LOL Thanks ;D I've had it all summer and I still loooove it! It only takes 45 minutes to clean it and redecorate completely  I have more pics since I cleaned it last night. I went for pink and green this time and figured out that I hardly have anything pink xD

Hehe, Grace my ratties eat in the litter box too! And stash food

Last weeks:

This weeks:

I've down graded to one level to make it easier on Bella. She's doing very well though, so I think I'm going to try expanding the cage back to two levels after we (the ratties are coming too :) ) get back from vacation in two weeks. If she can't use the whole cage, I'll go back to one level and use the bottom as storage.

Sorry for the pictures being so low quality. My room has terrible lighting and they were taken on my Dare :)

Oh, and TankGirl: What litter is that on the right hand side in the first picture? It looks like the wheat pellet cat litter I was going to try out next time. Is it any good? If it's not actually litter, disregard :)

Yes, it's Cat Country wheat grass litter, I like it so far! I just started using it though! It lasts longer than yesterday's news too!

Only got the one pic of the new setup, but it's enough. I recieved a box in the mail today from Tiny Dreamers (rodent_girl_1985 )
and OMG that bat cave is HUGE!  :o
I tried to put my three boys in this 'hammock' for a picture, but they're so darn quick, by the time the picture was done,
you could only see a blur!

And, one of Templeton from the playpen, wanting to come out. :)

Is there a better way to attach fleece to the levels? Binder clips are kind of awkward because they don't stay flat and make it difficult to slide the pan in. I hardly have enough fleece to make regular liners as it is, so pillowcase style won't work.

And Templeton is just too cute ^_^

Haha Juno does that too. Normally not much of an issue, and I'll just take them out whenever I'm near the cage for her to re-stash them(her favorite game), but lately Fuzz is having runny poos   Do yours put their veggies in there too? Bella use to steal all the kale and put it in the litter box on the oppisite level the veggies were on, and then go sit and enjoy her prize  :yelcutelaugh:

About the liners: Have you tried not clippung them down? I only clip them down now for Bella's sake(she kind of pulls herself on occasion, and clipping them down prevents them from bunching up when she tries). Before, I didn't have a problem with them pulling them up. Sometimes they'd pull the shelf liners into a hammock, and when they did that I'd just either give them another liner to burrow in or replace the liner.

Yes, it's Cat Country wheat grass litter, I like it so far! I just started using it though! It lasts longer than yesterday's news too!

That's why I liked the look of it. At the corner store, it's less than $20 for 40 pounds! Way better than the $8 for 10 pounds I pay for the YN that last me 4-6 weeks. I'll check back in with you in a few weeks when I need more litter. I hope you still like it then. It'd be nice to be able to save some money with all of Bella's recent medical needs  :hyper: I'll buy them a few more bird toys and freerange toys to celebrate, thus defeating the purpose of saving money  :yelcutelaugh: oh well!

Porkchop: You're cage looks fun! I love the batcave, I need to get me one of those :)

Yep, mine put anything edible in the litter box xD What's really funny is when Penny grabs something and stashes it, and then Heidi runs up and puts it in HER stash  :yelcutelaugh:
And yeah, they pull up their liners unless I clip the heck out of them. =/

Haha Riley and Juno did that last night! I've started giving them each one HT block at night, because Bella eats them better if she's next to one of her cage mates who is also eating one, and Riley and Juno decided they wanted to stash as many as possible instead of eating them. I gave them quarter blocks, and then would take them and give them back after they each had 4 or 5, then they found eachothers stash, and went to town  :yelcutelaugh: Rat's are so silly  ;D

Oh boo, I'm no help then. Maybe velcro? I strip on the liner and a strip on the cage?

Grace, you could try towels.  My girls always pulled up their fleece liners.  I started using towels and yes they still get under them.  But not nearly as bad.  They stay in place for the most part.  And I think the towels are cheaper.  You can find them at Walmart or Kmart for like $2.50 allot of times.

Velcro's an idea... I wonder how cheap it is? I'll have to stop at JoAnne's and look at that.
I've used towels before, they chew them up overnight :(.

I think it's fairly inexpensive. You'd only need a few feet total(2-3" sections on each corner of the pans). How long are you're liners? Do they go under the pans a few inches? If you velcro'd them on the bottoms, they'd stat pretty well.

Hmm... Usually I just cut a piece of fleece to size with a few inches more, then tuck it under and clip it. I might be able to get to a craft store today to see what they have :)

I stopped pinning down my liners. The rats will chew them to shreds to get under....there is no stopping them. The best thing to do for yourself (and you're wallet!) is to just stop pinning down liners. I just set my towels down in the cage now...and I haven't had one chewed bit! All you have to do is straighten up the towels whenever you have spare time (I do it 2-3 times a day).

Eh... they'll just keep pulling them into boxes and chewing them up when I'm not looking if I do that. I'll try out velcro or make do with the awkward binder clips :)

I take the handles out of my binder clips, it's a bit tedious, but better than the pan getting stuck because of the binder clip handle being between the bars

New layout. The hammocks are Bedtime monsters, courtesy of Violet976! This is one of my favorite sets from her. I adore this fabric.
