Super Pet Habitat Defined Ferret Cages, etc
« on: April 14, 2011, 01:30:56 PM »
I want to get Watson a new, big, fun cage. I currently have him in a Super Pet cage that is 18wx30lx29t, and I always feel like I'm out of room to add fun things to it. I saw these on Amazon - does anyone here have any of them, and do you like it/hate it?

I didn't like the Martin's cages, I like the Super Pet cage ALOT so want to stick with that brand. Or, is there another Super Pet cage that you like alot? I have a single male rattie who may/may not get a friend in the future, but I still would like to get him a very large cage since I have the space and he likes to hop around!

Thanks for any input :)

My cage is the same as your second choice only it is a little smaller. It is called the Super Pet habitat Defined Rat cages.  I love the very deep bottom tray. It has two good size doors in the front and a great hinged large door on top. It makes it very easy to decorate and clean.  It is large enough for two rats per the cage calculator. I have two little girls in it right now and they seem to love it!  I have only had it since 4-10, but I have used many diff rat cages in the past and so far.. I just love this cage!

I bought almost the identicle cage, minus the tube that goes around the top from Petco.com.  I ended up returning it because, if you try to move the cage it falls off of the base.  The ramps were thin and flimsy.  I think I paid less than $100 delivered.  Luckily I was able to return it to my local Petco assembled.

The Super Pet habitat Defined Rat cage is much, much too narrow for rats.  It is not a suitable cage for rats, especially adults.

I almost got the first one! It was listed on craigslist for 70 bucks in my area. I just have a problem with 1" bar spacing.  Well, not a problem with 1" bars so much as I have a problem with hard wire cloth.  It is a pain in the butt!

I love superpet cages, too! They're soooo easy to clean and so sturdy! I have the super pet exotics, but it's the exact same size dimensions as yours.  It's only for your single male? Because it's big enough to hold four.  I have three males in mine, and they don't seem to be in a shortage of space.  Maybe your Watson is a lot more active than my lazy butts. :p

I personally like the look of the second one better (the tunnel looks like it would be a pain to clean), but I don't think that you could go wrong.  As much as some of the other people complain about super pet on here, I love their products.  If you feel the same way, then I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever cage you decide.

This is what I use: http://www.superpetusa.com/product-list/my-first-home-large-for-exotics.htm

I got it on closeout from Petsmart.  I actually have two, and I combined them to make one super cage for my girls.  It's fairly nice, with 1/2 inch spacing and a good layout.  I would prefer a CN, i think, sometime in the future.

Petsmart recently came out with their own version which is almost identical:

I have the super pet my first home 2x2x2 I really don't care for it much. I took out the slide and tube and the ramp because they become way too much work to clean. I also find that the plastic shelves hold pee in the grooves and soak up the pee smell. Also one of my guys managed to injure himself the tabs in the holes where you attach the tube and slide into are rather sharp, I had no idea till my rat hurt himself. So I highly recommend filing them down.

The Super Pet habitat Defined Rat cage is much, much too narrow for rats.  It is not a suitable cage for rats, especially adults.

Actually the poster is looking at the cage that is bigger than the one I have. I was just giving my opinion on the quality and ease of the cage.

It is a little narrow but I think it makes up for that in height. It has much more room than some of the super pet cages I see here with great responses from others. At this time I do have two baby girls in it. Once they are grown, if the cage seems too small then I will look into something else without hesitation. I do have appropriate play time and time out of their cage. It fits a large wheel and I have three levels and hammocks etc.

I reviewed the cage before I got it. I also checked it out with the cage calculators and they said it is fine for two rats. (which I still know you need common sense)  I would not have got it for two big boys, but I think it is fine for my girls for now anyway.  Thank you so much for your opinion!

I know the OP was not asking about this particular cage.  The ones they are looking at are 18" wide, which is the minimum recommended width for rat cages.  I know exactly how big the cage is because someone surrendered some rats to me in it.  It might be adequate for temporary use, but I do not believe it is an appropriate permanent cage.
