My Official Rattie Blog Thread!
« on: March 04, 2012, 12:28:23 AM »
So, I decided to start my own rattie blog thread, since people have been doing that and I'm tired of opening a new thread every time I want to tell everyone something awesome about my girlies. So, first, gotta let you guys know who's who, for those that don't normally follow me.

Alice:

Zelda:

Thyme:

So, I did introductions between the three the other day, and there was some squabbling, but so far nothing major. Alice doesn't care either way, but Zelda doesn't like Thyme and Thyme wishes Zelda would be her friend. So, I walked by the cage earlier, and to my surprise, I saw this:

My two bratty fuzz butts snuggled in their wood tunnel, no squeaking or fighting. Of course, an hour later, one looked at the other wrong and they're sulking on opposite sides of the cage again, but no blood, no foul.

Also, as a bonus, here's a cute picture of Alice playing downstairs with their new jingle ball cat toy:

Thank you. :) My mother named her, along with her sister Millie. (RIP, such a sweet rat, she left us too early.) I thought it fit well, cause I'm a video game lover myself and she really is a bit like a little princess.

And thanks, Gaya. :) The boyfriend named her, along with the two rescues we're getting from the Amelia rescue, Peanut and Chakra. I actually name very few of my rats, lol! I named Alice and Nova(such a wonderful rat, and my boyfriend's heart rat, RIP), but other than that, almost all of my rats have been named by family members or friends.

So the RTR rescue girls made it in yesterday. :) They're still very skittish, so it's impossible to take pictures as they go running as soon as I approach. Poor girls. I'm going to start trust exercises ASAP. Chakra, my little mismarked black cap with a headspot, is definitely the more daring of the two; she came out to sniff my hand and ran around it for a moment before running for cover again. Peanut is definitely the more scaredy cat girl; I've yet to have her actually take anything from me, as she prefers to wait for me to put it down and turn my attention elsewhere, and I've never seen a rattie girl run for cover so fast in my life! Luckily, their QT home is very nearby, so I can spend a lot of time with them. I hope they warm up quickly! To me, they look to be about five or six weeks old, give a week or so. ((Definitely five at least though.)) At least basing their size of my little three week old I raised some time back. I'm feeding them a little Blue Buffalo to give them some extra protein, just a few pieces a day per rat. ((The normal formula, which is about twenty something percent protein, but add in the grain mix, veggies, and normal adult blocks, it's really diluted. They love it, too, so it makes a nice 'hey, the human's not so bad' treat.))

Intros are nerve wracking when you have so many vocal girls! Peanut is quick to squeak, Chakra's fairly squeaky, and Zelda squeals if Thyme comes anywhere near her(Thyme has never hurt her, Zelda just doesn't like her). So I'm just having to turn off 'mommy reflexes' and just let them do their thing.

The babies LOVE the wheel; the only time Chakra got off it was when Thyme decided to chase her all over the cage in an attempt to groom her(not even power groom, just groom; Thyme is weird). So far though, in the past hour anyways, during which I put them in a playpen together, Chakra escaped into my closet, and I deep cleaned everything in the CN, everyone's gotten along just fine. :) No screams, no biting, and the babies just LOVE Alice, probably cause she's a lot calmer and accepting.

I love the name (er, and the spice) Thyme, and she is a beautiful girl.
Actually, all of your names are awesome.  :)
