Well... yeah. They do that. If someone dies, the other ones eat it - probably it's safer in the wild not to leave your dead liyng around... and that instinct is still there, at least among the most.

They are not monsters for doing that, just rats...

Oh, and one more thing. I guess the rat who got eaten didn't get killed, but died of something else. Rats KILLING eachother is a whole different thing than rats getting rid of their dead the only way they know... and that is not common.

   I've heard of this happening a few times. As everyone else has said, I doubt that the rat was killed by the others.  But once faced with a dead body, they did the only thing they can do to dispose of it.
