I already had a vet and had two tumors removed from my little Marshmellow. I hear you guys talking about $150 prices, which are dirt cheap compared to my charge of $375. The $375 is the vets flat fee. I live on Long Island, New York; I am hoping that maybe for future appointments someone knows about a cheaper vet in the area. I would love to get more ratties in a few years but if I have to look at vet bills like that, I cannot afford it. I refuse to get another rattie and not be able to take proper care of it because I cannot afford the vet bill costs. So if anyone knows a more mildly priced vet on long island please help me out.

Would anyone know of a good vet that will also do neutering in the central OK area? OKC, Norman, Moore, Bethany, Mustang, Yukon, ETC, ? I've seen a handful for Tulsa but that's 3 hours away. Doable but a pain and not good in case of emergency.

Midwest exotic animal center/emergency animal hospital in Elmwood Park, IL sees ratties often. They see rats daily   :D They're located just west of Chicago on North Ave. Luckily they're a 24 hr facility.  Dr. Clarkson is really nice as is Dr. Paliakoff. They are very caring and kind and understand our love for ratties.

can anyone suggest a vet in Suffolk county long island tht does neutering for a reasonable price? My male has just needed to be separated from his cagemates after 8 months because over the past month or two I have noticed minor bite wounds that have gradually gotten worse and I would like to be able to introduce him to one of my single females so he doesn't have to spend the rest of his life alone...he is one yr old and never been caged alone. ive tried a few vets and they all want around 250.00$ and I just cant afford that...ive spent close to 1000.00$ on a hairless I adopted that had a corneal abrasion then an abcess and now a broken tooth and hes only 3 months  :puppy_dog_eyes: and my dumbo who got sick with pneumonia.
Owned by 6 ratties, rattatouille, spartacus, flower, baby, penelope and my hairless boy smiegal.

I would like to refer a vet in Tempe, Arizona.

I go to a lovely vet named Dr.Bastek at University Animal Hospital.
They charge 57$ for an exam, 46$ for a euthanasia, about 20$ for a tooth clipping and meds can cost anywhere from 7$-30$(baytril and doxy)
I payed 250$ To have 2 tumors removed, one which was rather large.
The staff is friendly, patient, and love meeting the little ones.
For the Euthanasia they will offer to take paw prints of your little one so you can take them home free of charge.

Dr.Bastek

drbastek@universityvet.com
Adress: 2500 S. Hardy Dr.  Tempe, AZ 85282
Phone: (480) 968-9275
Fax: (480) 967-6353
Email: uvhcsr@universityvet.com

If you live in Tempe, Az it is a good place to go.
They have helped me through pneumonia, teeth clipping, tumors, and pts. I will keep going to them as long as I am in Arizona.

I use Parkway Small Animal and Exotic Hospital in Clinton Twp., MI. The vets there have always been kind and courteous, and their prices seem decent (to me anyways).

Greetings everyone,

I recently relocated to Frankfort/Matteson, IL area with my partner and two rats. Unfortunately, it seems, one of them has contracted a URI (does not seem severe). Does anyone know of a decent local doctor thats reasonably priced for the Frankfort/Matteson area?

Thanks!

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone could request a vet who is reasonably priced for spaying female rats in the eastern/central North Carolina area. I have been to and got information from Avian & Exotics in Raleigh, and they told me it is $300 (or $350?) per rat. I have three 12 month olds and I have never had my rats spayed before, but losing my girl Norah to a pituitary tumor recently has made me warm up to the idea.

Thanks!

Ok sooo I feel like this thread is kinda hit or miss, but since the directory is gone (what happened? ): ) I really need some help!!

I need a vet near Boulder, CO (anywhere between Boulder and Denver is a reasonable drive) if anyone has suggestions? I will call around later because Rory needs to go in today but as much as I can't wait forever for a response I also would prefer a recommendation... idk what happened, he must have been feeling sick for a while and hiding his symptoms because I went to bed 4 hours ago and he was fine and the cat just woke me up and Rory is just wheezing and squeaking like crazy!!! He just needs abx but I am so taken aback because he was fine yesterday afternoon ):

Hey, everyone! I'm looking for a good vet in the Los Angeles Area, specifically the San Gabriel Valley, though I'm close to East L.A. too. It's not urgent, exactly, but I do need a vet and am shopping around. Thanks!

I'm looking for a vet recommendation in the Nashville, TN area. Surrounding areas are also fine, I'm willing to drive a bit if it means having a great vet! It's been a few years since my last rats passed away and I'm thinking of jumping back in, but we have since moved here and I want to have a vet lined up first who can spay and take care of any potential health issues. Thanks!

For anyone around the Brattleboro, Vermont area, I take my rats with more simple things like URIs to this place:

http://www.brattleborovet.com/

And I see Pamela Sorton, VMD. She doesn't specialize in small animals, however, her kindness and compassion can't be beat. She listens to your concerns and is the nicest vet I've ever met. She has prescribed my bubs antibiotics (and enough to actually last me a while) nebulized my sick rats, and helped a few across the Rainbow Bridge with grace and gentleness. I used to see someone else there but I didn't like them at all, and neither did my rats. She isn't the one I would go to for surgery, only because small animals are not her main patients, I'm still looking for that one, but she can help in a pinch and her fees are very reasonable.

Hey GM! I'm wondering if anybody can recommend a good rat vet in Portland, OR? I am maaaaybe considering getting rats again but I have to make sure there are competent vets nearby first. I do not own a car so something within the city is pretty essential...

For anyone in the south Bay Area, California, Adobe Animal Hospital in Palo Alto has good vets that see rats, but they tend to be very pricey (50$ and up)

Definitely don't go to Katella Animal Clinic in Anaheim, CA. The vet asked me if my rat had been vomiting, didn't use any terms to indicate he knew what a URI are (myco, porphyrin, etc.), and then told me that I would be better off with a tortoise because they live longer. Then he proceeded to prescribe me more medicine than I wanted and wouldn't let me decline any of them. If my boy wasn't waking himself up with his sneezing, I wouldn't have bothered staying with the appointment; but with the holiday season being so busy, I needed to get something asap.

I don't know if you're still looking for a vet, but I liked the service at Bancroft Veterinary Clinic. They knew what they were talking about and the vet even talked to other vets in the area to confirm that she wasn't misdiagnosing. Also, if you're a student who needs a ride to the vet if there's something serious like an emergency, I can probably help you out (also a student). Send me a message if you still need your vet situation figured out.

Southern California Rat Vet request
« Reply #298 on: March 07, 2016, 12:28:57 AM »
I am looking for a vet with significant rat experience in Southern California, specifically Ventura County. The next closest counties over are L.A. and Santa Barbara. Current diagnosis is diabetes with kidney disease, possible secondary infection. Need a blood test, will probably need more blood than just a simple glucose test. Current vet is having trouble getting blood under sedation, she will do it under gas but with the severity of his illness it would be a lot easier to work with a specialist. Thanks!

Last ditch effort to find a rat vet in the York PA Baltimore MD area who can neuter a rat for under 150. We've called at least 15 vets and the three that neuter all quote me 150 PER RAT. Since I'm looking at 4-5 of them, I don't really have that kind of money and if I get boys I'd really like to get them neutered for hygiene reasons.  Any help is appreciated.
