My poor Mirax. I went to give my crew some fruit this morning, and I noticed that Mirax had a pink protrusion just sort of hanging out of her.

Of course I freaked and pulled her out of the cage to take a closer look. At first, I thought she had a prolapsed rectum. Except it wasn't coming from her rectum. My beloved exotics vet moved to Florida a few months ago, so I called the hospital she recommended to me before she left. When I got there, the vet looked at her and said, "Looks like she has a prolapsed rectum" And I said, "But it's not coming from her rectum." and she looked again and made a surprised exclamation. She had never seen a prolapsed uterus before (

GREAT). The uterus was looking rather funky after hanging outside the body for so long, I did NOT want them to try to put that back in there to stay. So I decided to have her spayed. Of course there are many risks, considering she is 17 months old, plus they'll have to push the uterus back through to the abdomen so they can spay her correctly, and if anything tears in the process... well I'm just going to try to stay positive. As I was leaving, I was given an estimate of about $500,

and I about fell on the floor. But this is my baby, and she is a happy rattie, and she deserves a chance! I will be anxiously awaiting the call from the vet this afternoon to find out how she's doing.

Has anyone else had this happen to their rattie??
