Neko and his UTI (it doesn't end!!)

(1/2) > >>

BionicKoi:
My cat has had problems with a recurring UTI for months now. He was actually fine for over a month, no problems what so ever. And now he's started up again....

I scheduled an appointment with the vets today. They are usually swamped on Saturdays but I am thankful they can at least squeeze me in somewhere. But this is frustrating. He's obviously in pain and it hurts to watch him struggle. He is urinating but there is quite a bit of blood.  :'(

I just don't know what to do anymore. As soon as he starts up again all I can do is cry. The prescription diets don't help him although the meds do, I just hate pumping his body full of antibiotics all the time.

I'm sorry if I am just ranting about this, my words are all jumbled together.

BionicKoi:
Back from the vets. He was given a shot and he's been put back on Clavamox for a full week. I told my vet he's just a stressful cat and because of this Dr.Wolfe says that the next time he has a flare up I can just call and pick up more meds.

Its good to know that I don't have to stress Neko out anymore by dragging him along and I won't have to pay for the sitting fee. But this is why I want to put all of the felines on the raw diet. I heard that it can do wonders for cats with recurring UTI's.

My vet loves Neko though! Right after his shot, Neko started rolling around on the table and purring and my vet started laughing and told him that he's the best cat he's ever had to deal with! Thats my boy ;D

Marybelle:
I'm glad the vet was able to see you today.  I know it's no fun when you watch one of your kids in pain...  Good luck with finding a raw diet that works for you, and for Neko.  Hopefully it'll fix his issues.  I assume they haven't been able to find an underlying cause?

BionicKoi:
They suspect stress is a major factor. The first time this came up they did a urinalysis and his Ph was high and he had bacteria and struvite crystals in his urine.

Just being stressed out aggravates it for him, and he is a very stressful cat. Why? Thats just his personality I guess. Dry food can cause some problems as well since it can dehydrate his body and if he doesn't drink enough water, that can bring about UTI as well.

I am hoping that a raw diet is the cure for him! Thanks Marybelle!

Marybelle:
I know what you mean about a stressed cat.  My Beaker is like that.  Luckily, it doesn't affect his urine, Thank God for that.  I'll be keeping your poor boy in my prayers!
