He's eating it!?!
« on: January 26, 2005, 07:04:13 PM »
I put some YN in the bottom level of my boys cage and Parker eats it!!! He ate at most two pieces before I decided to remove the YN...What do I do now?

Wow...that can't be good! My girls will eat anything when it's first introduced to them, but they tend to get bored very quickly and leave it alone. I don't know how bad ingesting YN is though, so I can't give you any advice as to whether you should risk having him bore of it or not...

Not much help, huh? Heh.

YN is just pelleted newspaper, and is made with soy ink, so it won't hurt him.  We had a boy eat Carefresh the first time we put it in the cage, and he choked on it, but I don't think that's a danger with the YN.  Pretty soon he'll figure out that it's not really edible.  ;)

I think with any new bedding the rats are like "Hm, what's this that mum just put in my cage?" and have to sort of taste it to "figure it out." My girls taste ANYTHING that comes near them. I liken them to toddlers that learn what things are by cramming it in their mouth, so this is sort of the same way. Plus, Yesterday's News won't hurt them. :)

Thanks everyone! I put it back in. I'm not too worried about him eating it now.

mine tried to eat it for a little while after it was first put into their cage.  They soon lost interest in it.  I'm sure yours will too, it can't taste that good  ::)
