I don't know what the price is in Canadian money. You would have to email Martin's Cages or call them for help with that.

Galvanized wire cages absorb urine smells really quick and hold onto the stink. Powder coated cages do not do this. Definitely get powder coating!! It's worth the extra money. With the Ruud there is soo much room for toys, leap n ledges and anything else you'd like to fit in there. Many times people find that the rats don't use up all that space! It will definitely be big enough for four girls ;). I believe the Ruud can house up to 12 females.. so you're safe for awhile!

I'm going to be purchasing the RUUD -- "the ultimate rat cage" -- in a few weeks and will be getting the powder coated. DON'T BUY GALVANIZED. It's not worth the little amount money you'll be saving. TheChicagoCrew is right. I've read in several posts that the staff at Martin's is very customer service oriented. I suggest giving them a call and asking what the price would be in Canadian money. Let us know what you think of your RUUD when you get it!

Keep in mind you will also have to pay shipping to Canada, plus taxes and duty to get it across the border.

Any Canadians on the board who have ordered one (or decided not to)? Your experiences?

The only thing I will mention is that while the Ruud is like rat heaven, it is really hard to move around to clean.  My three girls have a  (R-695) The Rat Skyscraper and it plenty big enough for them--well, I think so anyway but they might disagree!  The Ruud and the Skyscraper have the same "Footprint", 30"x18" but the Rudd is 24" taller.  The price difference is pretty big, too!

Snowy,

Get the 695!  You will save about $70US  and with that, you can get the legs and wheels!  You won't be able to reach the top of the Ruud if you put it up on a table or legs!

According to the cage calculator, you can get 5.625 rats in the 695!  You could go to 6 I think, if you are on the scrupulously clean side.

Actually, I have trouble lifting my 695, but I'm really short and I have it on a table. What on earth are the handles for? I'm still not sure how the hooks are really supposed to attach at the bottom.

I have a Ruud and yeah, it's a bugger to clean, but with my number of girls living together, it was necessary. ;) I very rarely regret getting it - usually only on cage cleaning day when I'd rather be sleeping in.

Amy - I use the handles on my RUUD to help me move it, but I have two (one on each side). Did your 695 only come with one handle? If so, either order another one or just skip it - I don't think one handle mounted on the top would help you very much. And the hooks at the bottom - do you mean the springy things? You put the shorter hook up on the cage wire and stick the longer part (sorry if I am being too vague) under the lip of the tray. Voila, your cage is more secure, and if it *did* get knocked over, the bottom wouldn't go flying off. Hope that helped! :D

I have a 695 (came with 2 handles), it's great, I got 3 boys in it (though with as big as squishy boys get, I wouldn't put more than 4, 5 if they all get along REALLY well) and they love it, they race around up and down the ramps, and some strategicly placed hammocks. lol

I am going to use this opportunity to show off my Ruud.  This will give you an idea on size Snowy_Rats.  This cage is HUGE.  But my boys love it and only seem to use the top like 2 ft of the cage, eh.  But they still run around like crazy (until they become more squishy  :cheeky:)

how does the fleece on the bottom work for you? I think I am going to it since the sound of RIIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPINNNNNNNNGG paper all night just doesn't help get any sleep ;) .

I do laundry every day anyways, so it would be nothing to just grab it and throw it in (I never knew how much laundry a rat could have!!!) and put a fresh one in while the other is washing.

so nice! One day I will have a RUUD, even it is only for my 3 boys. lol

I have NO problems with having material on the bottom or anywhere in the cage.  Its a good thing that they are not chewers or else things would just be a mess.  But it works fine for me, I just change it out every two days.  I have two sets of ripped up towels that I use so while one is in the wash, they have a nice new clean set.  I used to use aspen but I think this works alot better.
