I use Aspen in the litter boxes. Then they get paper towels to snuggle in.

YN in the bottom of the cage and litterboxes, and baby blankets and towels to nest with. :)

is "aspine" supposed to be aspen?

Either way, i find that towels work very very well, and I use aspen whenever I have enough from my freezer or if I just want to do something new for the boys.

I voted Hunt Club bedding as I use Ecopetbed, a UK equivalent. That's chopped cardboard pieces.

I also have some survey data on preferred cage litters at http://www.rattycorner.com/odds/ratstats/ratters/substrate.shtml that you might find interesting.

I use aspen on the floor of the cage, cover one of the major shelves with cloth and tile (I've tried covering the smaller corner shelves and the girls rip off the covering, so I've given up on it!), and I use carefresh in the litterbox.

hey

I use Oaten Chaff. I have trouble finding siutable litter where i am. I use chaff in my brooders (for young chickens) Its dust free and really absorbent. It has a lovley hay smell.
The rats love to have a dig in it for edible bts (making a mess around the cage). I only have to change it every 2 weeks if i put it 1-2 inches deep.
A 35kg bag costs me only $18 (AU)

As for sleeping material...old clothes work well! And unbleached, unsented toilet papaer...but usually by accident. Mostly the rats sleep in their tunnel hammock.

I use Good Mews, which I believe is very similar to YN. I use it at the bottom of the cage -- as they poo and pee wherever they please. They're starting to poop and pee more often on the platforms though...eeww...

I'm using aspen right now, but this weekend when I go and get some more bedding I think I'll try Yesterdays News. Just want to try them out and see which one works best for us... :)
