Lots of rats in Bangor Maine shelter!
« on: March 04, 2005, 08:06:10 PM »
I received a call for help today from the Bangor Humane Society (I used to work there), they have 9 adult rats and a litter of 11 four week old babies AND a lot more are coming in!

I am so full myself that I cannot help but I asked the girl to e-mail me pics so I could post them here but so far she hasn't.

If you live close and can help, please please give them a call! Like I said, I used to work there so I know how "things" work. These rats need outta there ASAP!

The rats are not on the website yet but their contact info is, so click the linky!

By the way, it sounds like all the rats are black, black and white, beige and beige and white, no PEWs.

Aaawh so tempting. I have to stay away from this thread. My cage is full.

I checked with them last summer and they had nothing, and now they are swamped...I know you know this better than anyone, Kimmy, but when it rains it pours, eh?

I wish I could do something more! (I emailed you back kimmy if you are on here.)

Better start being carful what you wish for! But then again it is about that time, when kids start getting tired of their christmas gifts and "throwing" them away:(

I just convinced a couple not to get a betta until they do more reasearch and convinced them to come here about their daughters single girl rattie....I hope they do.

I picked up a dumbo on Friday named Fayed from there. They said they had around 30  (now 29) rats up for adoption. Jason (the vet tech.) was great about the all the rats! Fayed is now sleeping with his new brothers a bit even though he can't be with him too long seeing how while at the shelter he was bitten up real bad. He is a sweet-heart! Thanks Kimmy for letting me know about the shelter.

Thanks for getting him outta there Andie! I talked to Jason last week and he knows not to put any to sleep before he talks to me. So are they all dumbos?

Sorry for not responding, haven't had the time.
I think I took the only dumbo.
However I came back 2 weeks later and picked up another cutie pie! My boys didn't like Fayed so he needed a friend. He is black with a white tummy and his name is Mikey. I also got a friend to come with me and she got his little brother. We are telling people about the shelter and hopefully they will go.

A shameless bump for the ratties at the shelter!

There is no adoption fee for rats! They also have lots of babies and older rats that need a retirement home!

I went up there a couple days ago and took 8 rats in. Asked for all females (didn't want to have them breeding on me) and seems someone accidentally messed up the tank labels up there. When I got home I realized all the hoodies (3 of them) were male. I told someone else about the poor rats (and passed out the website address) and they went up and picked up 9 of them. That's 17 saved rats.

There are still some left. Check them out. Don't let them die.
