How to clean cage bars
« on: March 24, 2005, 12:33:29 PM »
How do you all clean your cage bars? It's too cold to take it outside and hose them and helfting it upstairs to the bathtub is pretty much out. What about a pail and sponge with bleach water?

Freezing weather, scorching weather, rain or sleet or snow... (I'm dramatic, I know)

I have to haul my cage outside and clean it. It just won't fit in the shower. I use dish soap, Sun and Earth cleaner, and a car washing brush.

So I know I'm not much help, but one thing I thought of trying was getting a kiddie pool (they aren't very expensive) and putting the cage in that and using hot water, soap, and a sponge to clean it that way. :)

Every couple days I take a pail of hot water and wipe down the wires.  I do this with my boys in their cage, they seem to think its a fun game to chase around the hot rag  ::)  This way, it lasts longer before I have to do a full cleaning, a ruud is a PITA to clean in my bathtub.

If they are going to be out of the cage and you plan on doing a complete cleaning, you could use hot water with bleach but you need to make sure you rinse it off very well.  When I clean I rinse it off, take soap and give it a good scrub, rinse it off, spray simple green everywhere, let it sit a couple minutes, and rinse it off very well.  Hope this helped.

My cage is so big that I cannot fit it through the doorway of their room, so I just bust out a bucket of soap and water along with rags and sponges and clean away.  It isn't that difficult to scrub down the bars on a Superpet cage.  What kind of cage do you have?

I do quick wipes with the Chlorox cleaning wipes.  They clean well and I follow with a damp sponge and towel dry.  Works great and doesn't leave a lingering smell.
