She's been fantastic with my girls. She's an exotics vet and does "non exotics" lol too
doesn't have a lot of experience with spays, apparently, but she's gotta be a pretty decent surgeon, one time when i was there with one of my cats, there was a dog Dr Krogman had done surgery on, she'd actually constructed an artificial tear duct for the dog without one. i have no idea how difficult that it, but *i* was impressed.

I can second petunia's opinion of Doctor Krogman. I've taken all my rats to her and is a great rattie vet (and general vet). She's removed a lump from Clooney and treated all the little ailments my guys came up with. She is really knowledgeable in exotics.

Dr. Lagana will see rats. Their clinic is a dog/cat clinic but Dr. Lagana has a soft spot for rats =] The most serious thing I've had to have her do is remove a fairly sized skin tumor which she did flawlessly. She's very good to work with, and reasonably priced.

I havn't gone here yet, but I thought I'd let everyone know that they have a low cost exotic spay and neuter once a month. I havn't asked how much rat spay/neuters will be yet, but a rabbit spay is $95 so I can only imagine rats would be very reasonably priced. Call the first of every month to find out when it will be. They'll speuter almost anything!

She does not treat rats exclusively, but she has been treating them for close to ten years, and seems to be very knowledgable. She was very sweet to my rats, and was not rushed at all. When I called, I was told they charge for every rat($48), but on my bill I was only charged one clinic visit for the four of them. My total bill came to less than $110, which compared to my last vet, is very reasonable.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe they will also do payment plans through the clinic.

All in all, I highly recommend her!

He was so great! We had taken one of our babies to another vet and they cauterized his abscess and basically knew nothing about rats. Dr. Wheelock was recommended to us so we went to him for a second opinion. Not only did he examine our babies, but he took pictures or them and the cauterized abscess for his records and gave them carrots. All of the technicians were very nice, as well. The only problem I had was that the front door is actually in the back, haha.

Like everything else, it's kinda screwed up right now. We're long overdue for an upgrade, but it's hard for Goose to find the time to put the necessary work into it (he works about 80 hours a week, which is why you don't see him post, like, EVER). All the great features we have here are a result of a LOT of custom code, which Goose would have to recreate for the upgrade. Hours of work.

I agree, just post the information here for now. Hopefully, we'll get that upgrade going soon.

Though I still recommend this vet, I've found her hours are incompatible with my schedule. She has everyother Friday and Saturday off. This wouldn't be an issue, if it wasn't for her leaving every week day by 3pm. I'm still in high school, and don't get home until 2:30pm. The earliest I could get to the clinic is 3pm, and that's if there is no traffic. I'm now using an exotics only clinic down the street, which I'll post below. I'll still use this clinic in the future though if I can't get an appointment  with the other vet.

I took Fuzz here last Thursday, and was really pleased with this vet. She was very nice, and not rushed at all. My appointment had bee for 3pm, but I hit some nasty traffic and didn't get there till 3:10pm. Even if I had been on time, my appointment still would have ran late because she very thoroughly explained what was going on with Fuzz, what treatment she was trying, and what future treatments she would try if his issues didn't clear up. She also gave me extra Metacam in case of future problems or injuries and extra bronchodialator tablets in case of an emergency in the future.

If I had only gotten what I needed for Fuzzies 30 day treatment, my total would have only been about $70 ($50 for the exam itself), but I like that she wanted me to be equipped to handle his problems in the future if I couldn't get him in that moment.

Recommended by our University animal facilities vet, Dr. Ernsthausen is our second-emergency-vet and has pretty good knowledge of rats. They don't do surgical procedures for rats, but he has been very good for respiratory illnesses and helping out with some malocclusion/tooth issues. Knew the doxy/Baytril combo and has flavorings that my girls think are treats The staff was very receptive to rats and always smile and give some scritches when I bring someone in. He does not charge exotic rates, and subsequent visits after the initial $35 exam are medication-cost-only. They don't charge for bringing in a buddy, either, so long as an initial exam had been paid for previously. He's been a good go-to, affordable general rat health vet for my stay here in NW Ohio.

Just added my vet here in South Africa as well, I haven't seen any fellow SA'ers around but maybe, just maybe it'll help someone  .

He's one of the only Exotics Pets specialists in Gauteng and has a deep passion for Rodents in general. He has treated my rats for the last 3 years and I don't think I would ever go to any one else...

Dunno if this has already been mentioned (in fact, if might have been mentioned by me ), but in the Washington, DC/Northern Virginia area I highly, highly, highly (ad infinitum) recommend SEAVS: Stahl Exotic Animal Veterinary Services.  Everyone who works there is incredibly, wonderfully skilled with ratties, and they're very interested/up on in new/alternative remedies (in addition to traditional/well-established ones).  Every little thing they do indicates that they know what they're doing - amber glass bottles for meds, etc., etc., etc.  Plus, several of the vets (and tons of the techs) have had ratties themselves and love them.  Here's the web site:

In Clinton, MO, Dr. Terry Mitchell at the Clinton Animal Hospital is the only local vet who is really qualified to treat exotics.  He's very good about being willing to trait ratties for injuries, illnesses, pain, etc. and not just instantly recommending euthanasia (as many 'all-purpose' vets are wont to do when it comes to ratties).  I never had to have him perform any surgeries, but I would've trusted Dr. Mitchell (and no one else) to do them if it had been necessary:

When one of my first rats, Ivy, needed vet care, both the vet techs and the vet treated her wonderfully, and fell in love with her; she is experienced with rats, although the one downside is that from what I know (last time I called to find out) she won't do neutering on girls as it is an invasive procedure she is not familiar with in such a small animal.

Dr. Doering is absolutely amazing. She cares about my rats so much. Peanut has gone through a tooth extraction with her. Ive gone through some URI's as well. I can e-mail or call with question's and she always gets back to me. It's $50 for a visit and I believe it's $25 for your first time.
