Hi BarrelRacer21. The chat is totally free. When it asks you if it can install something make sure you say yes. It takes a few minutes the very first time, but it will eventually load. Let us know if you still can't get in!

Ok I tried to get to chat... I used irc.everywherechat.com and channel #rfc... It put me in an empty room that it said I just created!
I'm confused. Any help?

Note: This is the site I used: http://www.polarhome.com/cgi-bin/chat/irc.cgi
Most IRC sites and clients including the link from this page to the chat do not work for me due I believe to my firewall, this is the only one I've found that worked. I've used it to go to other chat rooms for other msg boards in the past and it worked before.

Hi Dogstar, that site won't work for you. You either need to update your version of java at java.com or download mirc at www.mirc.com and connect to us from there.

I have the current version of java. When I go to the chat link from here it says it is connection but does not connect... I've had the same thing happen at other sites and it seems to be my firewall that causes the problem, and it also causes mirc to not work :/
I guess I just can't chat...oh well.

What firewall are you using? You need to open port 6667. You could try www.everywherechat.com , they did have an html version that bypassed some firewalls.

Hi Littlerattie. Are you using a mac or a pc? It sounds like you don't have java installed. Go to www.java.com and download the latest version, then reboot. Let me know if you still have problems.

I have found the java chat room on a Mac can be pretty iffy.

I actually recommend ircle. ;D

I've been having periodic problems getting into chat the past week no matter what method I use (java, chatzilla, trillian, mirc) after months of regular use.  Is there a known issue?

Actually, yes, there is! ;D

Roadrunner seems to have picked up on it already, so I have had no issues, but for some people it hasn't been resolved yet... basically, everywherechat changed its server address, and not all the ISPs have updated yet. ;D

(thanks to lisaj29 for finding this out)

Server Notice: Please note that our DNS server has changed again. You may experience issues connecting to the chat for the next 24 hours or so. We're working to fix this as soon as possible.

Server Notice: Once again, for anyone that might have missed the first notice - Please note that our DNS server has changed again. You may experience issues connecting to the chat for the next 24 hours or so. We're working to fix this as soon as possible. In the mean time, you can use the IP of the server to connect - 204.157.0.193

(however, this was way more than 24 hours ago...)

hmm -- I've been having problems connecting even using the IP address instead of the URL (got that info Friday night).  But I do get connected with no trouble much of the time.  But for example, I couldn't connect almost the entire evening Wednesday, but was finally able to connect with no troubles late in the evening.  BUt it did appear that many people were in chat - so maybe existing connections were fine?

You should definately be able to use the ip address with mirc instead of the server name. Try getting into mirc and type /server 204.157.0.193

Some isps can take up to 72 hours to update, and some offices cache dns settings for up to a week. So the actual everywherechat.com link might not work for your for now.

Did you follow the instructions?  They're not outdated, and I'm not really sure how to explain things any differently ... :(

Sounds like you don't have java installed on your computer.  3 or 4 posts up, there's a link posted by Goose on how to get it.
