Is that carpet in your cage? How do you wash it?

They're bathroom rugs.  I wash them with all the other cage stuff and hang to dry.

There's no way for feet to get caught.  There aren't loops, if that's what you mean.

REALLY?!? Rugs? Huh. Do you find that the rats chew them to bits or move them around a lot - and is there huge risk with that? Or is it like using towel/fleece? Do they smell bad at all with the pee and how often do you have to change them? I tried regular liners but my girls all chewed them to bits. I never thought to try rugs. I might have to, now..... would save on bedding that's for sure.

Most of the rats leave them alone.  Big time chewers tend to destroy them, so I don't use them with those.  No worse for them than chewing up towels/fleece as far as I can tell.  I change them frequently - at least twice a week - or they get stinky.

I just got a used double level ferret nation, and I'm looking into adopting two youngins in the next few months, so I used the handy dandy guide to modify a FN with hardware cloth and here we are! I only have two boys and I know they don't have a huge amount of toys right now but I'm working on it.

Have you guys ever used your extra panels from connecting two double units to make a "fifth" unit on the top or the side?
