early signs of bumblefoot
« on: August 15, 2007, 11:51:05 PM »
What are the early signs of bumblefoot?
One of my rats seemed to have a sore leg - I put her and a buddy in a cat carrier for 2 days.  She does seem fine now.  Her feet did look a little purple, but I compared them to the other rats & all of their feet look purple.  I realized that I want to observe their feet regularly.  What should I look out for? Red bumps?
Of course I'm doing preventative measures- I covered the wire levels with plastic shelf liner - my husband was worried that they'd chew it, but they haven't so far.  I put a ferret corner litter box in there & want to buy some smaller ones soon.  They have a large hammock that they spend most of their time in and the bottom level has carefresh litter.  I keep the cage pretty clean - no wet spots or anything.  I remove the soiled litter every day and then do a complete cleaning at least once a week.
