A Play Date with the Hedgie...
« on: March 08, 2008, 09:23:22 PM »
In the spring, my roommates and I like to take our pets (one rabbit, one hedgehog, and my two rats) outside for playdates.  It usually isn't long before the rats get sleepy and need a rest.  However...this is what happened when the hedgie decided to join them.

Nobody likes to sleep next to those quills.  I guess a compromise was reached?

Adorable!  I've never had hedgies and ratties simultaneously.  I would LOVE to just crawl into that carrier with them.  My two favorite animals together, could it get any better?  ;D

Very cute!

I am not a fan of mixing species for play dates. Too much can happen, and its not something I would risk.

We were very careful when introducing all of the animals, and we always watch them very carefully when they are together.  It is also important to make sure that the animals have plenty of space to be by themselves if they want to be.  You are right that it is not something that would work with all animals.

Actually, interestingly enough, Dundie (one of my rats) and Pickle (my roommate's rabbit) used to loved to snuggle, and Dundie would love to groom Pickle's fur.  However, since Pickle got neutered, they completely ignore each other.
