"Nature's Miracle" in rat cages?
« on: August 26, 2008, 03:33:26 PM »
I use Nature's Miracle enzyme powder in my cat litter boxes, with much success in decreasing odor etc.  It says on the bottle that you can use it for rabbits, and in "small animal cages" safely.  I'm concerned because it's a powder, and because one of the ingrediants listed is silica.  Has anyone ever used this in rat litter (I use Yesterday's News in the bottom of the cage currently)?  I'm thinking maybe it's not a good idea, but was curious to hear what others thought. Thanks!

I believe silica can cause cancer... But I'm not sure.

Silica is basically tiny pieces of glass... I'm sure that wouldn't be fun to breathe in. Maybe its okay for your cats because they don't live in their litter? I'm just guessing here, not really sure. I would play it safe and not use it for your rats.

Yes, I think some studies suggested that it can cause lung cancer in rats.

Allrighty, then! No NM for the ratties!  In fact, I'm reconsidering it for my cats, too....  Thanks!

I rinse my litter boxes and FN pans with the liquid Natures Miracle, let it sit a few minutes, scrub and then rinse thoroughly.
