Thanks! Its Rustoleum painters touch. Color is in berry pink but we also have one in seaside. They need to cure minimum 2 weeks.

Thanks! How does it handle cleaning?
Would it be something that people could do to their galvanized cage to keep smell from getting into it?

It handles cleaning great! I used a scrub brush on it and it has held up remarkably well.
Yes, its actually recommended to paint galvanized cages so it helps with pee smell. I painted my cage because i had to paint the Bass Pans which are galvanized metal i believe. They didnt have the stainless steel ones back then unfortunately. Well I wanted the pans to match the cage so I ended up painting two DCNs in teal over a year ago and they held up very well for the year plus.

I've had a critter nation for about 6 months now, but I just redid all the decorations and made coroplast pans for the bottoms (based on guinea pig cage tutorials). Some have said their rats ate right through things like that, but none of my boys have ever been destructive, so I thought I'd at least give it a try. Bonus pics of my new babes!

Here's the girls cage for the week. It has been a hectic past week. It was put together really fast so it's not one of the best cage setups they've had in a while.

How did you get the pink CN! No doubt you've explained this before but I need to know! It's so cute! And where did you get the special bottom pan?

Thanks! I painted it with Rustoleum Painters Touch spray paint and most importantly let it cure outside for 2 weeks before putting any animals in it. It's safe after curing. And the pans came from Bass Equipment Company. I believe they call them ferret pans on the website. Hope that answered your questions.  :)

Are you referring to the Lixit Critter space pods? I bought mine from Amazon.

Ilovemyratties is correct, they are Space Pods. I also got mine from Amazon, and the pink one is from one of our dear forum members who gifted me it during a swap. The pink ones from the UK and they call them sputniks there. The US only carries the purple and green ones as far as I know.

Just bought my three girls a double CN yesterday off Kijiji for $200! Though that sounds ridiculous for a used CN, it's a good deal considering it's $300 plus tax here, and it was pretty much brand new.

Doesn't she look so peaceful!? SO CUTE  :hyper:

Just got myself a double critter nation. I can't decide if I want to assemble it now or in January after I move cross country. Does anyone have experience with packing away the DCN into the box it came in? Or maybe how to transport a cage without the pokey bits destroying things packed near it?

Regardless, I'll be posting pics of my SCN or my DCN later this week after I sew up some hammocks from my Black Friday haul.

Originally, I decided on the SCN for Elliot Rosenberg and Josh Miller. Even after Oliver Reynolds and Peter Martin moved in, there was still plenty of space for everyone. Then I found a deal on another used SCN that I couldn't pass up. At first I used the second as a make-shift add-on DCN.

Today I decided to try out a single level "doublewide" setup. For me and my boys, I think I might prefer it to the stacked arrangement.

Awesome set up! I had a double wide at one point. I loved it and I think the rats loved it too. They spent much more time on each side than they do in the bottom when theyre stacked. I bet yours are loving it! :thumbsup2:

Thanks, Kitsch!

The boys were actually spending a large chunk of their time on the ground level of the double so I figured that they wouldn't mind if I doubled their floor space at the expense of the height. Peter Martin (2.5 mo. agouti) has taken to sprinting back and forth along the length of the cage. I'm guessing that means he doesn't mind the extra floor space

If you are able to wait until after the move, I would have to commend your level of self control. I don't know if I'd be able to wait. If you do choose to set it up now and tear it down when you move, I probably wouldn't try to put it back in the original box. Those boxes are incredibly large and extremely heavy. I would probably zip-tie the components into several separate sections and then just handle them with care. Moving three or four bundled cage pieces might be easier than one ginormous box.

I look forward to seeing photos of your setup!

Here is one you have probably never seen before that I thought would be fun to share (but a little off topic).

A few days ago, my husband decided he wanted to tear down my last aviary (4' x 8' x ceiling height). I still had four finches in it. He told me I could buy a flight cage. The youngest of these finches are 6 years old, so with an average life span of 5-7 years, they probably will not be around much longer. I really didn't want to buy an expensive flight cage that wouldn't be used for long. So I decided to buy another rat cage instead and did this with it (it is a little sterile looking now as this was thrown together last minute):
