Thanks for all the compliments  ;D  It has taken a few years to get.. the decorating touch - but I think I finally have, lol. At least my rats are loving it a lot more :)

I actually found them at the thrift store! But I know you can buy them at petstores and such. (Here goes some shameless advertising ;) ) You can get them at Ferret Depot (HERE) Which the raffle for our local rat rescue has a $25.00 Gift Certificate for right now ;D (Here is that link) So you could possibly get a couple for $1.00!   :wink5:

I'm wondering how fleece is absorbent at all. I have a piece of fleece, & I put a little water on it, but it just sat there in a puddle. Even a couple hours later it was still just sitting there in a puddle on top of the fleece. A towel in between layers wouldn't seem to help if it never seeps thru the fleece. Now when I put a little water on a piece of cotton bandana, it soaked right in. Wouldn't cotton layers with terry towel in the middle be better? :-\

Fleece needs to be washed a few times without any fabric softener to strip it of it's waterproof barrier. Then it can properly wick the fluid down into any absorbent inner material. Here is a good read about it:

For those of you interested in making coroplast pans for your CN, if you have rats that chew like mine, they might destroy them in no time flat.  To solve the problem, buy some "undersill trim" or "utility trim" from Lowe's or Home Depot.  It's in the vinyl siding area.  You just cut it to length and slide it over the edges of the coroplast.  Problem solved.  At least for me, they do not chew it at all, but when I tried just the coroplast, they destroyed it in no time flat.  Here's a link to what it looks like:  https://www.randgsupply.com/Warehouse/Exterior/vinylsiding/vinylsidingtrim.htm (undersill trim).  If you don't like how it hangs down so low, you can easily cut the notched edge off.  I leave it the way it is.  It doesn't look bad to me at all and offers greater protection.  I put the low hanging edge on the INSIDE of the cage.

Hope this helps anybody who thinks coroplast would not work for them.  My rats are big chewers, and this has been an inexpensive solution to several problems.  IF they start to chew the trim, which for me is rare, it's very easy to pop off the old trim and replace it before it gets to the coroplast.  But like I said, they rarely even nibble it.

I have ratties again!  Through Alaska Rat Rescue I adopted a trio of girlies to a great owner a little over a year ago.  For very legitimate reasons she can no longer keep them, so I took them back in.  They are 2 and a half years old now, so not young.  Two have very recently developed large tumors, but due to lung issues the owner and I are not comfortable putting them through surgery.  So once again, I am a retirement home (My last 20 or so personal rats have all been older adults when I got them).

I spent the day yesterday making liners and hammocks.  It felt great to sew again.  Of course I don't own shower hooks anymore, so they are on the shopping list.  That will certainly make putting the cage together easier.

Considering I got mine a week or two ago I haven't re-taken a photo yet. Took this one the same day I got it and it's painfully empty and non-matching.

I have a few more hammocks and gizmos in there now. I will re-take a picture on cleaning day.  :yelcutelaugh:

For once, I was not feeling super lazy when I cleaned the cage today.... actually did some rearranging.

I am also really, really, really happy that I made the coroplast pan. Has made cleaning/maintenance sooo much easier for me.

I unfortunately don't have one myself, but I've noticed a few CN pics on the FN thread, and thought, "Heck, I want to see all the CNs, and they shouldn't be controlling the FN thread!"
So I made this one! Conversations are fine so long as they don't stray too far from the subject. I wish I had one to show  :-\
Post away!

Ok so nothing matches this week. I confess that forgot to wash my liners and had to use stuff that I had. The checker board fabric is a nod to my favorite band ever Cheap Trick, and I was going to make a liner set with it since I have a sewing machine but my lie has been a giant busy mess lately and I've had no time or motivation to try sewing it, so into the cage it went over some towels, and the shelfs are lined with my old t shirts they fit perfectly so I just shoved the shelf into the shirt and put it on top of the thing it sits on  :yelcutelaugh: The pirate set of hammocks was the only clean set I had...I've been waiting to use them I was trying to hold out on finding the perfect pirate fabric to buy liners to make a pirate themed cage but I haven't found one that stuck with me yet.. I was even pointed to some by the lovely Violet but none of the struck me as a good fit so much for holding out  :yelcutelaugh:I will still have a pirate cage though hopefully lol

That's really great   :icon_rr:

Love the way all your hammocks make a whole new level in your cage.

I need to improvise some habitat things and i like the blue basket tied to the cage wall with some fleece. Where did you get the basket? I'm thinking that a dollar store basket would not be durable enough for this. What kind of store did you get this from?

(my son thinks the big haired cool guy icon is awesome  ;D)

Lol I don't think I've ever seen that icon used on here before!

As for the baskets, I did indeed get them at dollar tree. One of the new things I added so we'll see how they like them and how well they hold up!

Heh, there might be a limit to how often you can post here but I made some pretty big changes this past week and thought I'd post the new pictures. I moved the babies to their own level by connecting the two shelves and then went out and bought new fabric for liners. This set up seems to be working well so far :D
