Help One of my rabbits is suddenly acting agressive towards mate
« on: February 17, 2009, 07:12:18 PM »
:shocked2: My nether land dwarf mix started acting up with his cage mate today. Mr. Carrots has never acted at all aggressive, but this morning I went to take them fresh water and he was biting Wabbit's face and legs and really latching on to her. I tried to separate them for a bit but when i put him back in the cage he started attacking her again! So I got her out of the cage and now she is at work with me, does any one know what started this problem? And how do I fix it?

Are they altered?  How old are they?  How long have they been housed together?

The Female is supposed to be fixed but I am not 100% sure, I have no idea how old they are because they are both rescues, they have been housed together for 3 weeks :'(

Hmm.  That doesn't give me a lot of info to go on.  Were they already bonded when you got them?  Where were they rescued from?  Are they full grown?

You have had both of them for three weeks?  How long have they been sharing a cage?

I have had the male since jan. 2 and the female I got three weeks ago when i got the female i went and built a new giant bunny hutch so they would have more than enough room. And they have been staying in it peacefully for 3 weeks

Bummer.  Neutering the male may help with aggression.  It would be a good idea to confirm that the female is spayed.  Has she gotten fat recently?

What are the dimensions of the floor space for the rabbit cage?  Sometimes rabbits will fight if they do not have enough cage space.

It sounds like you will need to separate for a while.
