Another Sewing Question...
« on: March 02, 2009, 03:10:11 PM »
This is probably a really stupid question, but how do you make a pocket hammock? My first attempt turned out really bad, and I know that they could look better if I could just figure it out! It's probably really easy, but I seem to have trouble with the easier stuff.  :P Cubes and other more difficult things I'm okay with, but these...

Take a really long rectangle (like 15x35) and sew it like you would a regular hammock and flip it inside out. Fold it to where you want the pocket to go like

But make sure the fabric you want to be showing when it is finished on the inside. Fold the outside edges. Flip inside out. Tada!! Pocket hammock!!

Thanks, I was probably making it too complicated.  ;)

One more question... for putting in the grommets, are you guys using grommet pliers or eyelet pliers? The only grommet pliers I can find put in 3/8" grommets, which look huge. The eyelet pliers put in eyelets that look about the right size. I don't really know the difference though.  ??? *is clueless*

Eyelet pliers are what I think most people use. I definitely do.

Grommets are much more sturdy.  There have been many threads about them, which a quick Search should bring up.  :)

For grommets, I use the mallet and hammer. I know... that's the "old fashioned" and "manual labor" way of doing things, but I don't use them enough to justify buying any expensive tools!
