The problem has not yet been solved. I am going to e-mail them and see if they have an idea when the solution will be. I suggest you do the same to see if you get the same or a different answer.

Until the problem is fixed if you cover the shelves they are OK.

I recommend LFFR bedding because I have seen no other shelf covers like hers and they fit very well.

Please do not duplicate her design to sell but I am sure if some of you who know how to sew want to make your own for personal use that would be OK as long as you don't profit from her design. It is just respect. :wink5:

i dont know if i may have worded something wrong but this is what i got back today

"Good morning, and thank you for your interest in our Critter Nation.

Safety is a top priority for us.  We are not aware of any issues regarding the ramps on this product causing any problems.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us between 8-5 Eastern, Monday-Friday.

Kind regards,"

It is the shelves not the ramps. No one has had any animal been seriously hurt in a CN (that I am aware of) like there has been in the FN but the CN and FN have the same kind of shelves so I posted this warning.

With ferrets you want the ramps covered because  they are clumsy and have gotten limbs caught and broken or sprained. Rats are not as clumsy as ferrets so the ramps uncovered are fine. Some people still cover them though.

I haven't e-mail them yet but I will do that today.

I have a friend who's young rat got killed when she shut the door on him while he had his head hanging down.  So it got caught between the shelf and the door.  So that is the one thing you have to be VERY careful about with the FN and CN cages.  But as was already said, if you use something to cover your shelves, you'll minimize the gap between the shelf and the cage and eliminate the problem.

Oh yea her toe healed in about 5 days no lasting damage. Just scared the beejeepers out of us. Outcome would have been worse if I was not awake or home. But don't get me wrong I still love midwest and they are working to fix the problem and make it right. They still live in their FN and always will.

Does this mean I should definately not order a CN? :-\
Or is it just the FN that this has happened with?
I am kind of a tard, so for those of us who are :tard: , would someone mind taking a picture of the parts that are dangerous?
I am just wondering and this thread is really making me reconsider asking for a CN for xmas.

If you don't put your rats or ferrets in the cage without shelf liners you have nothing to worry about.  Just always have liners on your shelfs while your pets are in the cage.

However, I have a CN and there is no gap on any side of the shelf, just the indents for the latter.  But I do always have them lined, so either way, my rats are good. ;)
