Help! Found a ferret and need advise about food etc.
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:03:03 PM »
Someone found a ferret in their backyard.  It is currently at the local humane society looking for its owner but no one there has much ferret experience.  I think it is a girl. She is not eating much.  They gave her cat food because there was no ferret food on hand.  Will this be bad for her? Also, do ferrets like fresh fruits and veggies like rats?  She doesn't seem to be interested when I offer her anything.  She is very docile and will let you hold her.  She has a hideaway bed for her to sleep in right now and a cat litter box.  I hope her parents come and find her soon, but in the mean time I want her to be well taken care of.  Any advice will be appreciated.

I don't know anything about ferrets, but here's a care guide:

I know this is a bit late, but I just recently was able to post on the forums.  Ferrets are carnivores and should not have dog food or fruits/veggies/etc because of this.  Cat food should be fine (I've fed it to mine in a pinch), but a good ferret food will do wonders for her.  Make sure she has plenty of out-of-cage time and she should be fine until her parents come and get her.  Good luck!
My babies...
