Ferret with mites?
« on: September 20, 2009, 01:49:38 AM »
Ok well the story goes my three rats and three ferrets have cages in the same from. Close to each other.
Bought a bag of wood bedding for the rats and found a few bumps on them looking like mite bites.
Washed and sanitized everything. The entire room including the animals themselves.

After realizing they had mites i searched the ferrets too. Everyone expect Nien was clean.
He has a few spots on his scruff. (i had to shave it to diagnose it).
Also, for my reference, does anyone have a good picture of a ferret with ringworm?
I keep hearing its crusty but I have no idea what that means.

Rats are now in a temp quarantine cage in another part of the house after receiving Ivermectin oral gel.
Im waiting for my Revolution to arrive still.

Ferets are in cleaned cage after being bathed with shampoo.

What mite can infect both the rat and ferret?

What do I treat the ferrets with?

As far as I know, there isn't a mite/lice that can move from rats to ferrets.

It's possible the marks on your weasels scruff are from rough play.

I know rat lice is little orange to red buggies, mites can't be seen.

I would think that since Revolution is safe for cats, dogs, and rats, that it would be safe for weasels too.  I actually just bought some, and was thinking of putting it on my weasels because I do believe they have ear mites after trying many attempts with in-the-ear meds.

I would see if you can find a dose chart for ferrets for it tho.  If a drop covers a rat, 3 might be good for a weasel ... I'm no expert tho!
