what about my cage idea?
« on: March 05, 2010, 08:59:15 PM »
I have two bookcases that were meant to be stacked ontop of each other.

all together their somewhere just above 6ft tall im 6ft and its taller than me.

each one has four cubby holes i was thinking i could make a hole in the center walls so they would have doorways.

the two book cases will not attach as in one will be seperate from the other because i want one to be for does and the other for bucks.

im installing vinyl flooring inside it.
and the doors will be wooden frames with wire mesh. and a latch.

any other ideas?

at least 4 ft long.

the inside is 1-2 ft wide im not sure id have to measure it again.

From what I have read I think the depth needs to be at least 16 inches.  I have a homemade cage too.,com_smf/Itemid,118/forum,rat/topic,4065709.0

My concern would be where you cut the holes to go from cubby to cubby.  It would expose the raw wood.  Usually those book cases are made from a kind of pressed wood.  If that wood is exposed in those 'walkways' they will most likely pee on the wood, which would probably cause problems.  I'd try to figure out a way to cover the wood in that area.

The dimensions sound very similar to how big my cage is 6' x 4' x 1.5'

Just throwing in my experience here- I hate my bookshelf cage. It's evil, they chew it, and it's annoying to clean.
